Enshrouded runs on Windows PCs through Steam and on PS5, is Steam Deck Verified, streams on GeForce NOW, and comes to Xbox Series X|S in spring 2027 with no exact date; there is no Mac, Linux or Switch 2 version and no cross-play at launch. It asks a lot of a PC, and Keen Games' Technical Director Julien says why in the studio's 1.0 performance video: "Enshrouded is a very demanding game featuring a fully modifiable open world with a huge view distance on top of a day night cycle and players creating huge spaces", which is why Keen built its own engine, Holistic. He expected 1.0 to be "considerably faster than the previous versions", with GPU and CPU work, water simulation and entity optimizations, less memory and better network code.

PC system requirements

Steam lists these requirements for Enshrouded 1.0 (Steam, read Oct 20, 2026).

Minimum
OS 64-bit Windows 10
Processor Intel Core i5-6400 (2.7 GHz, 4 cores) or AMD Ryzen 5 1500X (3.5 GHz, 4 cores)
Memory 16 GB RAM
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (6 GB VRAM), AMD Radeon RX 580 (6 GB) or Intel Arc A380
Network Broadband
Storage 60 GB
Recommended
OS Windows 10
Processor Intel Core i7-8700 (3.7 GHz, 6 cores) or AMD Ryzen 7 2700X (3.7 GHz, 8 cores)
Memory 16 GB RAM
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Super, AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT or Intel Arc A770 (6 GB VRAM)
Storage 60 GB, "SSD recommended"

Minimum and recommended both ask for 16 GB of memory and a graphics card with 6 GB of video memory. MeinMMO reported the 1.0 update itself as around 19 GB for existing installs.

PC performance in 1.0

The brick renderer is 1.0's main performance change. Florian, a Senior Engine and Graphics Programmer at Keen, explains that the whole world can be changed by players and seen from far away, so turning voxel data into triangles was a bottleneck; the engine now builds "little bricks" filled with a compressed surface representation, which are much faster to create, easier to cull, and allow "much higher detail at a greater distance". Keen's changelog adds lower video memory use, less CPU load, reworked point light shadows for big bases, and "Improved performance on handheld devices, low-end graphics cards and the Steam Deck".

Keen's 1.0 Update Highlights video sums up the visual side: performance improved "in many areas alongside lower memory use", distant terrain and buildings keep more detail, lighting and shadows improved under dense trees and inside buildings, the engine renders more point lights, each biome has its own lighting and atmosphere, "Shader compilation is considerably quicker and HDR support is here for compatible displays". HDR comes with a calibration screen.

Shader compilation was the most common complaint, and Keen explains it: the game's many visual effects, even the factories and the grappling hook's line, had grown into "thousands of different unique shaders", which each player's graphics driver must compile after every update or driver change. Combining them into fewer, more complex shaders is "an ongoing effort" for a small VFX team. The 1.0 changelog says compilation time was "significantly reduced", though "a small amount of compilation time is unavoidable".

Lower-end PCs were a stated target for 1.0. In the Road to Release video of Jan 21, 2026, Creative Director Antony Christoulakis promised "optimization for smoother gameplay across hardware, especially lower-end configs", with shader compilation "for sure also on our list". Two launch-week hotfixes fixed crashes and a gray fog bug on Nvidia cards (1.0.0.2, Oct 16, 2026).

Steam Deck

Enshrouded is Steam Deck Verified: all four of Valve's Deck checks pass, with one note, that external controllers are not supported as the primary player (Valve, read Oct 20, 2026). GamingOnLinux headlined it "Enshrouded 1.0 rolls out and now it's Steam Deck Verified" on Oct 19, 2026.

That status is new. In Keen's developer Q&A recap from spring 2024, early in early access, the answer to "what are the next steps for Steam Deck support" was that the Deck version "still needs more optimization to earn its Steam Deck certified sticker". Some 2026 press tips pages still call it unsupported; Valve's own report says Verified.

Xbox Series X|S

Enshrouded comes to Xbox Series X|S in spring 2027. Keen had planned consoles for 2025, then for 1.0, but on Jun 25, 2026 it moved Xbox: "As we approached launch, we decided that achieving the level of quality and performance we expect on Xbox would require additional time ... We never want to rush a platform release or compromise on quality," said CEO Jan Jöckel (press release). The launch press release reconfirmed "the Xbox Series X | S launch in Spring 2027". As of Oct 21, 2026 there is no exact date, no Xbox store page, and no Game Pass announcement.

Mac, Linux, Switch 2 and cloud

Enshrouded has no native Mac or Linux version; Steam lists Windows only. Linux PCs other than the Deck rely on Valve's Proton, which Valve's report rates Playable on SteamOS outside the Deck. No Nintendo Switch 2 version has been announced; Christoulakis told CGMagazine only that "We will do more platforms, for sure". NVIDIA's GeForce NOW streams the Steam version, from launch day. Keen's dedicated server tool is also Windows only, with Linux "planned for later" (Keen support; Dedicated Servers).

Cross-play

There is no cross-play between PC and PS5. Keen's Launch FAQ of Oct 13, 2026: "Enshrouded will not be cross-platform at launch ... We are working on bringing cross-platform play to Enshrouded, but have no current estimate on how much time it will take us." Christoulakis told Wccftech: "We still want to add cross-play". No cross-progression between platforms has been announced. Co-op sizes differ too: up to 16 players on PC, up to 8 on PS5 (Multiplayer and Co-op).

Languages

The interface is in 15 languages: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish (Spain), Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Turkish, Ukrainian and Thai. Since 1.0 lore notes and the main survivors are voiced in English, German and Mandarin Chinese, with "other languages planned for a later date", and text and voice languages are chosen separately (changelog).
