Fell Dragon Youngling
The Fell Dragon Youngling is the dragon of Enshrouded's Albaneve Summits (achievement "King of the mountain"), long the game's hardest boss. Enshrouded 1.0 reworked it on Oct 15, 2026 with a big health cut, a wider arena with grapple anchors, an exhausted phase on the ground for melee and a weak point on its back for every weapon.
The Fell Dragon Youngling is the dragon boss of Enshrouded, found on the highest peaks of the Albaneve Summits, and the fight that 1.0 changed most. Its Steam achievement is "King of the mountain: Defeat the dragon" (Steam). In Keen's "Things we're fixing for 1.0" (Aug 19, 2026) the narrator says it "has long been the last boss in the game, and for many, it has been less of a formidable foe and more of an impassable obstacle", over footage of the red dragon circling a snowy summit ringed by Shroud. Keen's answer, shipped on Oct 15, 2026, cut its health heavily, widened the arena, added a phase in which it lands and made the weak point on its back work for every weapon (Keen, Oct 14, 2026).

Where it is
The dragon arrived with the Albaneve Summits on Nov 5, 2024, when Keen warned of "a powerful creature rumored to haunt the highest peaks" (Keen, Nov 5, 2024). Its arena is a ring of rock and snow on a summit, with the Shroud around and below it. Keen's 1.0 changelog calls it simply "the boss in the Albaneve Summits" (Keen, Oct 14, 2026). Bring warm gear and food for the climb (Albaneve Summits, Food and Cooking).
The early access problem
For a year the dragon was a wall. PCGamesN called it the game's hardest boss and its "final test" in early access, and quoted community manager Andrew "Toast" Eldred: for many players it was "less of a formidable foe and more of an impassable obstacle" (PCGamesN, Aug 20, 2026). Keen had already written in November 2025 that "Balancing the Fell Dragon Youngling is an ongoing topic... this boss can be an obstacle in the progression for some players", and added boss-specific difficulty settings (Keen, Nov 10, 2025). Players also hit bugs: the boss sometimes reset to full health or got stuck and unresponsive.
The 1.0 rework
Keen fixed the bugs first and then rebuilt the arena and the fight. In "Things we're fixing for 1.0" the narrator explains that the arena is deeper, so players less often fall off or are pushed off "by the dragon's gust of wind", and that a new phase lets "the dragon land on the ground" so melee players can attack it "without needing it to be stunned". He reminds players that "melee builds can reflect the rock projectiles to stun the dragon", a hint many had missed. The footage shows a player fighting the dragon in the snow as it hurls glowing red projectiles.
The numbers moved in the player's favor. Keen reduced "the amount of stunning attacks required before the dragon gets stunned", increased the damage it takes normally, made "the weak spot on its back effective for all weapon types", kept it stunned a little longer (taking slightly less damage while stunned), refined its hitbox and, "last but not least", significantly reduced its overall health. The stated goal: "a challenge without turning it into a chore".
Keen's changelog lists the same changes as shipped, plus a few more: grapple anchors around the wider arena, the Shroud lowered below the walkable area, an exhausted phase in which it lands, stun arrows and shock damage that work better, and an air push that throws you upward so you can glide back in (Keen, Oct 14, 2026).
The 1.0 Update Highlights close on the dragon, under a spoiler warning for anyone who has not reached the Albaneve Summits: "The Fell Dragon Youngling has a larger arena with fixes for resets and getting stuck. A new phase gives many fighters more opportunity to engage", over shots of a player crossing a wooden walkway onto the snowy arena and striking the grounded dragon.
How to beat the Fell Dragon Youngling
- Parry its projectiles. Parrying the rock projectiles back at the dragon stuns it and "remains a strong option"; 1.0 added journal hints about parrying and its weaknesses (Keen, Oct 14, 2026). See Combat.
- Bring stun arrows and shock. Stun arrows and shock damage work better since 1.0, and the vultures in the arena drop materials for stun arrows and lightning spells (same source). See Magic and Spells.
- Hit the back. The weak spot on its back takes extra damage from every weapon type.
- Wait for it to land. In the exhausted phase it comes down, and melee builds can attack without stunning it first.
- Use the anchors and the wind. Grapple anchors ring the arena, and its gust now throws you upward so you can glide back (Glider, Grappling Hook and Fast Travel).
- Keep going after a wipe. Since 1.0 enemies regain health slowly after you die instead of resetting at once.
- Lower the boss difficulty if you need to. Boss-specific difficulty settings exist in the world settings.

EnshroudedEnshrouded is Keen Games' solo and co-op survival action RPG set in Embervale, a voxel-built kingdom swallowed by a fog called the Shroud. It left Steam early access with its 1.0 release on Oct 15, 2026, launching on PlayStation 5 the same day, with Xbox Series X|S planned for spring 2027. -
Albaneve SummitsThe Albaneve Summits are Enshrouded's frozen mountain region in the north of Embervale, added on Nov 5, 2024 in Souls of the Frozen Frontier, for characters of about level 30 to 40 at 1.0. Deadly cold, deep snow, around 100 points of interest and the Fell Dragon Youngling wait there, and 1.0 opened a Hollow Halls in the mountains. -
Food and CookingOn default settings, food in Enshrouded does not keep you from starving: it gives timed buffs (more health, stamina, mana, regeneration or attributes) in a limited number of food slots, and hunger only exists if the world turns it on, as the Survival preset does. The rested buff, from shelter and a comfortable base, raises stamina, and cold, wet and exposed states drain it. -
CombatEnshrouded's combat is real-time third-person action on a stamina bar: light attacks and hold-to-charge heavy attacks, blocking and parrying (some projectiles go back at the attacker), dodges and Blink with invulnerability frames, a stun bar that opens enemies to Merciless Attacks, and a focus bar for weapon special abilities. There is no PvP. -
Magic and SpellsMagic in Enshrouded is cast from staffs, which fire spells as ammunition and spend mana, and from wands, fast projectile weapons with a heavy attack since 1.0. Version 1.0 added nine spells (Mana Drain, Entangle, Pillar of Flames, Blizzard, Ball Lightning, three elemental totems and Summon Hollow Skeleton) and an upgradable Eternal version of every spell that never runs out of charges. -
Glider, Grappling Hook and Fast TravelEnshrouded has no mounts: you cross Embervale on foot, by glider (lifted by Updraft and air streams), by grappling hook, by swimming and diving (since Nov 10, 2025), and by fast travel between climbed Ancient Spires, your Flame Altars and, since 1.0, a bed you sleep in.
