Fell Thunderbrute
The Fell Thunderbrute is the first boss of Enshrouded, the guardian of the first Elixir Well in the Springlands, reached through the Shroud near Braelyn Bridge on a quest from the Blacksmith. Beating it earns the achievement "Thundering success", its head and the Shroud Root at the bottom of the well.
The Fell Thunderbrute is the first boss in Enshrouded: the hulking Fell guardian of the first Elixir Well in the Springlands, which you reach through the Shroud near Braelyn Bridge after the Blacksmith asks you to clear the well and destroy its Shroud Root (TheGamer, Jan 24, 2024; Game Rant, Jan 25, 2024). Its Steam achievement is "Thundering success: Defeat the guardian of the first elixir well" (Steam). Keen's Beginner Tips (Feb 7, 2024) note that "bosses give more XP per encounter" and that it can pay to visit them again once they respawn, which makes the Thunderbrute an early source of experience as well as a story step. The rest of the boss list is on Bosses.

Where and when
The Thunderbrute is the first big fight of the main quest. Once you free the Blacksmith, he sends you to the first Elixir Well; TheGamer's guide reaches it through the Shroud near Braelyn Bridge (TheGamer, Jan 24, 2024). An Elixir Well is "an underground source of Shroud", with its Shroud Root at the bottom, so the walk down counts against your Shroud timer (The Shroud). Eat before you go: TheGamer recommends food buffs first.
The road to the well changed at 1.0 (Oct 15, 2026). The 1.0 Update Highlights say Keen took "another pass at the opening hours", with more chests to try different weapons, roads and camps adjusted "to help you find your way" and early crafting recipes reworked "to reduce frustrating resource bottlenecks". Keen's changelog adds that your first level-up now comes at your first Flame Altar and the second when you free the Blacksmith (Keen, Oct 14, 2026). Survivor locations in 2024 guides describe early access; see Beginner's Guide.
Moves and tactics
Game Rant describes two ranges of attack. Up close the Thunderbrute sweeps with its blade and kicks; at range it slams the ground and sends shockwaves along it. Its advice is to stay close, keep moving and hit its back (Game Rant, Jan 25, 2024). TheGamer adds two other ways: throw powder-ball bombs, or keep your distance and kite it with a wand (TheGamer, Jan 24, 2024). Both guides date from early access; 1.0 reworked combat, adding stamina recovery while blocking and heavy attacks that hit several close enemies (Keen, Oct 14, 2026). See Combat.
A failed attempt costs less since 1.0. Keen's "Things we're fixing for 1.0" says that "dying will no longer immediately reset the health of the enemies you are fighting. Instead, they will slowly regain their health", so you can return from your tombstone and finish the job.
Rewards
In early access TheGamer listed 1 Shroud Core, the Fell Thunderbrute Head, 20 Runes and the Tainted Axe (TheGamer, Jan 24, 2024). The head was the key ingredient for raising the Flame to level 2 in early access (TheGamer, Feb 1, 2024); 1.0 changed the Flame recipes, so check Flame Altar and Flame Levels for the current one. Since 1.0 every heavy-class enemy also has a head trophy for your base (Keen, Oct 14, 2026).
The Thunderbrute can also drop a weapon named after it. In Keen's Dev Update of Oct 23, 2025, senior game designer Christoph lists "the fell thunder brute greatsword" among the weapons added to enemy drop pools, with rarity "from common all the way up to legendary". Greatswords came to the game on Nov 10, 2025 (Weapons).
Destroying the Shroud Root
The Thunderbrute guards the Shroud Root at the bottom of the well. Cutting a root clears the Shroud around it and gives a skill point the first time; skill points come from your level plus the Shroud Roots you have destroyed, and the roots stay with your character (Keen, Nov 5, 2024). See Skill Tree.

EnshroudedEnshrouded is Keen Games' solo and co-op survival action RPG set in Embervale, a voxel-built kingdom swallowed by a fog called the Shroud. It left Steam early access with its 1.0 release on Oct 15, 2026, launching on PlayStation 5 the same day, with Xbox Series X|S planned for spring 2027. -
SpringlandsThe Springlands are Enshrouded's starting region (levels 1 to 10 at 1.0), in the southwest of Embervale, with the Cinder Vault, Longkeep, Braelyn Bridge, the first Elixir Well and its Fell Thunderbrute, the first Hollow Halls, and the Low Meadows to the south.
-
BossesEnshrouded's named bosses, in rough order of progression, are the Fell Thunderbrute, the Scavenger Matron, the Fell Wispwyvern, the Hollow Cyclops, the Vukah Brawler, the Fell Monstrosity, the Fell Sicklescythe, the Fell Dragon Youngling, Hydrak'Dal and, at 1.0, the story's final boss in Cinder's Cradle. Since 1.0 bosses regain health slowly after you die instead of resetting. -
The ShroudThe Shroud is the corrupting fog over Embervale's lowlands in Enshrouded. Flameborn can survive in it only while a timer lasts, and red Shroud kills outright until your Flame level is high enough. It holds the Fell, rare materials and the Shroud Roots that give skill points. -
Beginner's GuideIn Enshrouded, start by leaving the Cinder Vault, placing a Flame Altar (your first level-up in 1.0), freeing the Blacksmith (the second), following the main quest, and upgrading the Flame so you can survive deeper Shroud. This guide covers the first hours of the 1.0 release in order, with Keen's own tips. -
CombatEnshrouded's combat is real-time third-person action on a stamina bar: light attacks and hold-to-charge heavy attacks, blocking and parrying (some projectiles go back at the attacker), dodges and Blink with invulnerability frames, a stun bar that opens enemies to Merciless Attacks, and a focus bar for weapon special abilities. There is no PvP.
