Skill Tree
Enshrouded has no fixed classes. Every Flameborn spends skill points (one source is character level, the other is destroyed Shroud Roots) in one shared tree whose areas the 1.0 menu labels Survivor, Beastmaster, Ranger, Assassin, Trickster, Athlete, Barbarian, Warrior, Guardian, Battlemage and Healer, and can respec at a Flame Altar for runes.
Enshrouded has no fixed classes: every character spends skill points in one shared skill tree, and where you spend them decides whether you play a warrior, a ranger, a mage or a mix. Keen Games' 1.0 press release says the tree lets you favor melee, ranged or magic "without being locked into a single class" (Keen Games, Oct 14, 2026), and the Steam store sums it up as "armored juggernaut, deadly ranger, devastating battlemage", or a blend of them (Steam). In Keen's Update 8 video of Apr 14, 2026, designer Christoph walks through the reworked tree: a new interface you can zoom out of, skills that now have levels, and a lower first cost for most skills, so you can reach deeper nodes faster or level one skill to its full potential first. The tree you see in 1.0 is that Update 8 tree plus the skills 1.0 added; how points turn into a fighting style is on Best Builds, and the moves themselves are on Combat.

How the tree works
The tree is one web of nodes, and each region of it belongs to a playstyle. Keen's 2023 combat video shows the character screen with its list of attributes and then the tree itself, gold nodes on a purple field linked like a constellation; that was the pre-release tree, and both Update 8 and 1.0 have rearranged it since. The official 1.0 screenshot above labels eleven areas, Survivor, Beastmaster, Ranger, Assassin, Trickster, Athlete, Barbarian, Warrior, Guardian, Battlemage and Healer, with a twelfth label hidden behind a tooltip; early access guides called that area Wizard and called Guardian "Tank" (TheGamer, Jan 24, 2024). Which label is hidden at 1.0 has not been confirmed by Keen, as of Oct 21, 2026.
The six attributes on the right of the menu grow as you take nodes. TheGamer's early access guide matched them as Strength for melee damage, Dexterity for ranged damage, Intelligence for magic damage, Constitution for health, Endurance for stamina and Spirit for mana, and grouped the archetypes the same way: Athlete, Barbarian, Warrior and Tank (now Guardian) under Strength; Survivor, Beastmaster, Ranger and Assassin under Dexterity; Trickster, Wizard, Healer and Battlemage under Intelligence (TheGamer, Jan 24, 2024). That is a 2024 layout: Update 8 added "more paths between classes" (Keen, Apr 21, 2026), so treat it as a guide to where things sit, not a map.
Skill points
Skill points come from two places: leveling up and destroying Shroud Roots. Keen's beginner tips video of Feb 7, 2024 names both, says experience comes from killing enemies, discovering areas and points of interest and mining ore, and warns that one character cannot unlock everything, so you will have to choose. Keen put it as a rule when it explained a reset: the points you have equal your character level plus the number of Shroud Roots you have destroyed (Keen, Nov 5, 2024). Roots stay with the character, and Keen's FAQ says "you cannot farm Shroud roots by making new worlds" (Keen support). Where the roots are, and why you need time in the fog to reach them, is on The Shroud.
The level cap is 50 at 1.0, up from 25 at the early access launch, 35 in November 2024 and 45 in November 2025. 1.0 also added 12 Shroud Roots in Cinder's Cradle and 6 more in new edge-of-world areas, mainly in the Springlands, Blackmire and Kindlewastes. Keen has not published the total number of points a fully explored character can reach, as of Oct 21, 2026; the official screenshot shows one character with 58 points in use, an example rather than a cap. In 1.0 your first level-up is designed to come when you place your first Flame Altar and the second when you free the Blacksmith (Keen, Oct 14, 2026); see Flame Altar and Flame Levels.
The Update 8 rework
Update 8, Forging the Path, rebuilt the tree on Apr 21, 2026, and 1.0 kept that design. Keen's highlights video says the reworked nodes and costs give more ways to optimize a build, that a skill you only want on the way to something better is "now much cheaper", that the first unlock of a skill is weaker while the upgraded ones are as strong or stronger than before, and that Double Jump now sits in the middle. Because of the rework every skill point was refunded. The changelog counts more than 20 new nodes and more than 80 skills that can be upgraded with points, new skills that unlock each weapon's special ability, new maximum-health skills, and Strategic Maneuver, which lets you dodge behind a locked-on enemy in melee range (Keen, Apr 21, 2026).
The layout was cleaned up at the same time. In Keen's gear and progression video, Christoph explains that many nodes that used to be mandatory became optional, that Double Jump was moved to the middle so you can get it early "without needing to put skills into the athlete tree first", and that skills that work well together were grouped to lean into each class fantasy. Some old nodes that only improved an effect were removed, because you now raise the skill itself by leveling it.
Skill levels and gear perks
Since Update 8 your gear can raise your skills too. Christoph describes a new kind of item perk that adds a level to a skill, giving "plus one to Mage Apprentice" as his example, and says these extra levels from items let a skill go past the normal limit you can reach with points. Keen's highlights call the new perk type Skill Upgrades. That makes armor part of a build: a set whose perks match your favorite skills is worth more to you than raw armor value, and the Armor Sets page covers how upgrading armor unlocks its perks.
What 1.0 changed
Version 1.0 (Oct 15, 2026) added new skills, the most talked-about of them a building one. Keen's 1.0 highlights video introduces Airborne Architect, which "lets you fly around your base while you build", placing pieces from any angle; the changelog places it at the center of the tree (Keen, Oct 14, 2026). The other new skills are combat ones: Aerial Wand Attack, Wand Evasion Attack, Advanced Necromancy (more skeletons), Totem Mastery (more totems), Blast and Cast, Puncture, Barrage and Survival Instinct. Keen's combat post of Sep 23, 2026 explains the last four: after a wand critical hit, Blast and Cast raises the base damage of your next staff attack within 10 seconds by 50%; Puncture raises ranged piercing damage; Barrage gives bow hits a chance to restore durability; and Survival Instinct gives back Shroud time when you kill a Shroud-infested enemy with a bow or dagger (Keen, Sep 23, 2026). Spells and wands are on Magic and Spells.
1.0 also moved the dagger skills from the warrior area to the assassin area, moved Veteran, One-Handed Specialization, Inner Fires and Snap, and cut the cost and raised the effect of many skills (Keen, Oct 14, 2026). If you load a character made before 1.0, its tree is reset once: "Please make sure to spend the skill points again!"
Skills worth taking early
Movement and defense skills help every build. In Keen's Update 8 combat video, combat designer David says the dodge roll now has invulnerability frames and no longer rolls around enemies by default; rolling behind a target is a skill on the ranger side of the tree, so each player can choose whether they want it. The skills most guides point new players toward are these:
- Double Jump, at the center since Update 8, reachable from any start (Keen, Apr 21, 2026).
- Blink, which "replaces the Dodge Roll ability with a short-range teleport" for 20 stamina, as the tooltip in the official screenshot reads.
- Inner Fires, which Keen's own tips name as a way to get "more time in the Shroud" (Keen support).
- Dessert Stomach, an extra food slot, which Game Rant puts in its greatsword build (Game Rant, Apr 25, 2026); food buffs are on Food and Cooking.
Game Rant's 1.0 tips advise committing to one archetype for roughly the first dozen levels and going hybrid later (Game Rant, Oct 16, 2026).
Respec
You can reset your skills at a Flame Altar, as Keen's tips video already told players in February 2024, and the price has been 1 rune for every point you had spent since Nov 5, 2024, taken from your backpack or magic chests. Single skills can be reset since Jan 28, 2025 (Keen), and since Patch 14 (Apr 29, 2026) only the last node of a chain can be fully unlearned (Keen). In the video Christoph warns that the Update 8 rework reset every player's spent points, and 1.0 did the same once more; early access guides that quote a flat cost of 10 runes describe the January 2024 rule.
Frequently asked questions
How do I respec in Enshrouded? In Enshrouded you reset skills at a Flame Altar, paying 1 rune for each skill point you had spent; you can also reset single skills, though since Patch 14 only the last node of a chain can be fully unlearned.
How many skill points do you get in Enshrouded? In Enshrouded your skill points equal your character level (up to 50 at 1.0) plus the number of Shroud Roots you have destroyed. Keen has not published the maximum total, as of Oct 21, 2026.
Does Enshrouded have classes? No. Enshrouded has no fixed classes: one skill tree has areas such as Warrior, Guardian, Ranger, Assassin, Battlemage and Healer, and you can mix them freely.
Can I mix classes in Enshrouded? Yes. Enshrouded lets you take nodes from any area of the tree, and Update 8 added more paths between the class areas to make hybrids easier.
Where is Double Jump in Enshrouded? In Enshrouded, Double Jump sits at the center of the skill tree since Update 8 (Apr 21, 2026), so every build can reach it early.
What is the best first skill in Enshrouded? Enshrouded guides most often suggest Double Jump first because it is central and helps every build; after that, pick the first nodes of the playstyle you want and commit to it for about a dozen levels, as Game Rant's 1.0 tips advise.
Did 1.0 reset my skills in Enshrouded? Yes. The first time an existing Enshrouded save loads in 1.0, the character's skill tree is reset and the points are refunded, so spend them before leaving your base.

Best BuildsThe best Enshrouded builds commit to one playstyle for roughly the first dozen levels, then branch out. At 1.0 the main routes are the greatsword or two-handed warrior, the shield tank, the bow and dagger ranger, the staff and wand mage that 1.0 strengthened most, the battlemage and the healer, each tied to the survivor who upgrades its gear. -
CombatEnshrouded's combat is real-time third-person action on a stamina bar: light attacks and hold-to-charge heavy attacks, blocking and parrying (some projectiles go back at the attacker), dodges and Blink with invulnerability frames, a stun bar that opens enemies to Merciless Attacks, and a focus bar for weapon special abilities. There is no PvP. -
The ShroudThe Shroud is the corrupting fog over Embervale's lowlands in Enshrouded. Flameborn can survive in it only while a timer lasts, and red Shroud kills outright until your Flame level is high enough. It holds the Fell, rare materials and the Shroud Roots that give skill points. -
Cinder's CradleCinder's Cradle is the endgame region added in Enshrouded 1.0 on Oct 15, 2026, north of Veilwater Basin, for characters of about level 45 to 50: lava wastes below and floating Ancient islands above, with 12 Shroud Roots, a new 14-type enemy faction, a new crafting tier and survivor, and the story's final fight high in the sky. -
SpringlandsThe Springlands are Enshrouded's starting region (levels 1 to 10 at 1.0), in the southwest of Embervale, with the Cinder Vault, Longkeep, Braelyn Bridge, the first Elixir Well and its Fell Thunderbrute, the first Hollow Halls, and the Low Meadows to the south.

BlackmireThe Blackmire is a swampy, giant-tree corner of Enshrouded's Revelwoods, added in Melodies of the Mire on Jun 5, 2024 "for players level 13-15", home of the Vukah and of Valory the Bard, with jump pads, deep mud and, since 1.0, new edge areas.
