Armor Sets
Armor in Enshrouded comes in warrior, ranger and mage sets for each tier of the world: crafted sets are always rare quality, looted ones range from common to legendary, and all of them are upgraded with runes at the class survivor to unlock perks. Since 1.0 each Flame upgrade unlocks the next tier's craftable sets, armor can cut damage by up to 80%, and any piece can be tinted or hidden behind vanity.
Armor in Enshrouded comes in sets for three kinds of fighter, warrior, ranger and mage, at every tier of the world, and since Update 8 (Apr 21, 2026) every piece can be upgraded with runes like a weapon. In Keen Games' video on that update, designer Christoph explains that items now start with fewer armor points, but upgrades raise both physical and magical armor and unlock perks, so a fully upgraded piece can beat the old values: armor becomes "something that you can and probably should keep improving as you progress through an area". A correction from community manager Andrew follows: rarity does not change an item's base stats, so a common drop does not start worse than a legendary of the same type, it just has less room to grow. Since 1.0 (Oct 15, 2026) each Flame upgrade unlocks the next tier's craftable sets (Keen, Oct 14, 2026). Which set suits which playstyle is on Best Builds; weapons are on Weapons.

How armor works
Each set is built for a role. Christoph says Update 8 differentiated the archetypes: the warrior tank armor is tankier than the warrior fighter's, mage armor has more magical than physical armor, and a battlemage set has more armor than a damage-focused wizard set, "which is more like a glass cannon". He adds that each survivor now upgrades only its own class (the Blacksmith warrior armor, the Alchemist mage armor, the Huntress ranger armor), that crafted items are rare and need runes to reach their potential, and that epic and legendary armor waits to be found. The changelog puts it in numbers: warrior sets have the highest physical armor, mage sets the highest magical, ranger sets an equal share of both, and armor points can now reduce damage by up to 80% (Keen, Apr 21, 2026).
Armor also protects against the weather. Warmer armor, food, campfires and torches keep the cold of the Albaneve Summits at bay (Keen, Nov 5, 2024), and the character screen tracks how much your items shorten being wet (Keen, Apr 21, 2026); see Food and Cooking.
Upgrades and perks
Since Update 8 armor, shields and rings are upgraded "just like you could upgrade weapons for a long time", Christoph says, and rarity matters because it sets how many upgrades and perks a piece has. Pieces you have outgrown can be salvaged into runes. Legendary items need legendary runes, which drop from elites and bosses; at 1.0 they need them one upgrade step later than before (Keen, Oct 14, 2026).
Upgrades unlock perks, and some perks raise skills. Keen's Update 8 highlights say old gear "can now be upgraded just like weapons", with brand new perks including a type called Skill Upgrades "allowing you to increase the level of your skills via your armor", more upgrade potential at each rarity tier, and an armor calculation in which better armor reduces damage more. Pick armor whose perks feed the skills of your build (Skill Tree).
Sets by tier
Every tier has craftable sets for each class, and more drop as loot. Before 1.0 some sets unlocked when you picked up a resource or finished a quest; since 1.0 "every time the Flame gets upgraded, the armor sets for the following crafting tier get automatically unlocked", so you cannot miss one, and armor recipes cost fewer resources at every tier (Keen, Oct 14, 2026). How Flame levels work is on Flame Altar and Flame Levels, and the order of the tiers on Progression Guide.
Sets named in Keen's notes and press guides, by the region of their tier:
| Tier | Sets named in sources |
|---|---|
| Revelwood | Adventurer (damage, Game Rant); a craftable ranged set and a craftable dagger set at 1.0; Marksman as loot |
| Nomad Highlands | Mercenary, Guardian and Sage (bronze, early access, TheGamer); a craftable ranged and a dagger set at 1.0; Sharpshooter as loot |
| Kindlewastes | Radiant Paladin (Game Rant) |
| Albaneve Summits | Mountain's Shadow (Game Rant); Elder, Radiant Paladin and Eagle Eye drop here since Update 8 |
| Veilwater Basin | Sunpiercer (Game Rant) |
| Cinder's Cradle | A new tier at 1.0; its set names are not yet in an official or press source, as of Oct 21, 2026 |
Sources for the table: Game Rant's damage sets (Apr 25, 2026), TheGamer's bronze sets (Feb 25, 2024), Keen's notes on ranger, dagger and loot sets (Oct 14, 2026; Apr 21, 2026). The dagger sets (Assassin, Frostbite Slasher, Blood Feather and a new one) have a melee critical chance perk since 1.0 instead of sneak attack damage.
Guard of the North is a set you find, not craft: the Steam achievement "Pieces of the past" asks you to "Find all forgotten 'guard of the north' armor pieces" (Steam). Early access guides placed it near Pikemead's Reach, after the Fell Wispwyvern (Game Rant, Feb 26, 2024).
New sets keep arriving with updates. Keen's Thralls of Twilight highlights (May 13, 2025) add three craftable sets at once, one each for warrior, ranger and mage, then the coloring station with "around 40 different color palettes" for armor and vanity outfits alike, and the option to hide any part of your armor, not just helmets and gloves.
Dyes and vanity
Your armor's stats and its looks are separate. Keen's Melodies of the Mire highlights (Jun 5, 2024) introduced vanity: you can hide helmets and gloves and use secondary equipment slots to override how your gear looks, so you "fight in style without compromising on survivability". Tints are crafted from palettes, many of them from materials found in the Shroud, and applied at the coloring station; the image above shows the Colorize Items menu. 1.0 made more older pieces tintable, including the Scholar Of The Empyrean set, and mannequins can hold a whole outfit as armor or as vanity (Keen, Oct 14, 2026). The Barber, Elio Ricci, changes your hair and since 1.0 your body proportions.
Event outfits stay obtainable. In Keen's "Road to Release" video of Jan 21, 2026, the community lead says the anniversary Twitch drops include "a really nice new armor set" and that, as usual, it is also available in game through a quest from the Huntress. Keen's Launch FAQ says all Twitch drops can be had in game (Keen, Oct 13, 2026).
The paid Deluxe Upgrade Pack ($9.99 on Steam) adds three Exclusive Class Outfit Packs with a digital artbook and a printable map; on PS5 they come in the Deluxe Edition. Editions are on Price and Editions.

Best BuildsThe best Enshrouded builds commit to one playstyle for roughly the first dozen levels, then branch out. At 1.0 the main routes are the greatsword or two-handed warrior, the shield tank, the bow and dagger ranger, the staff and wand mage that 1.0 strengthened most, the battlemage and the healer, each tied to the survivor who upgrades its gear. -
WeaponsEnshrouded's weapons are one-handed melee weapons used with shields, two-handed axes and hammers, greatswords (since Nov 10, 2025), dual daggers (since Jun 5, 2024), bows, staffs and wands, in rarities from common to legendary. They are upgraded with runes and legendary runes by the class survivor, can carry weapon gems since Update 6, and reach level 55 at 1.0. -
Albaneve SummitsThe Albaneve Summits are Enshrouded's frozen mountain region in the north of Embervale, added on Nov 5, 2024 in Souls of the Frozen Frontier, for characters of about level 30 to 40 at 1.0. Deadly cold, deep snow, around 100 points of interest and the Fell Dragon Youngling wait there, and 1.0 opened a Hollow Halls in the mountains. -
Food and CookingOn default settings, food in Enshrouded does not keep you from starving: it gives timed buffs (more health, stamina, mana, regeneration or attributes) in a limited number of food slots, and hunger only exists if the world turns it on, as the Survival preset does. The rested buff, from shelter and a comfortable base, raises stamina, and cold, wet and exposed states drain it. -
Skill TreeEnshrouded has no fixed classes. Every Flameborn spends skill points (one source is character level, the other is destroyed Shroud Roots) in one shared tree whose areas the 1.0 menu labels Survivor, Beastmaster, Ranger, Assassin, Trickster, Athlete, Barbarian, Warrior, Guardian, Battlemage and Healer, and can respec at a Flame Altar for runes. -
Flame Altar and Flame LevelsIn Enshrouded the Flame Altar is your base's heart and a fast travel point; upgrading the Flame raises every player's stats, Shroud time and the number of altars you may place. 1.0 adds a Flame level needed for Cinder's Cradle (15 altars) and Flame level 11 after the final threat (16 altars, and altars push the Shroud back).
