Kindlewastes
The Kindlewastes are Enshrouded's sun-scorched desert, southeast of the Nomad Highlands, for characters of about level 20 to 30 at 1.0. They hold the town of Brittlebush, the settlement of Shorewatch, Sun Temples, the Fell Monstrosity at the region's Elixir Well and the Fell Sicklescythe in the Haunted Sun Temple.
The Kindlewastes are the desert region of Enshrouded, a "sun-scorched" land (Keen Games, Jun 25, 2026) southeast of the Nomad Highlands, meant for characters of about level 20 to 30 at 1.0 (Destructoid, Oct 17, 2026). Its landmarks are the town of Brittlebush, the settlement of Shorewatch, the Sun Temples, the Elixir Well guarded by the Fell Monstrosity and the Haunted Sun Temple of the Fell Sicklescythe. The desert has been in the game since the early access launch on Jan 24, 2024. In Keen's Thralls of Twilight highlights of May 13, 2025, the narrator says the landscapes "especially in the Nomad Highlands and Kindlewastes" were reworked with more realistic terrain, new trees and vegetation and smoother transitions into the Shroud, over footage of the reworked land.

Where the Kindlewastes are
The Kindlewastes sit on the east side of Embervale. Destructoid's 1.0 guide places them southeast of the Nomad Highlands, with the snowy Albaneve Summits to the northeast of the desert (Destructoid, Oct 17, 2026). In early access TheGamer described the desert as the rightmost strip of the map, with "a lot of Shroud" and its Ancient Spire on a small island in the middle of it (TheGamer, Feb 16, 2024). At 1.0 Keen reworked the transition between the Nomad Highlands and the Kindlewastes (Keen, Oct 14, 2026). The full layout of Embervale is on Map and Regions.
Much of the region lies under the Shroud, and the red Shroud kills a Flameborn whose Flame is too low. Keen's Beginner Tips (Feb 7, 2024) explain the rule: red Shroud "means your flame level is too low for that zone", and strengthening the Flame at the altar unlocks parts of the map. In early access TheGamer suggested a Flame Altar of level 6 for the desert (TheGamer, Feb 16, 2024); 1.0 changed the Flame recipes and costs, so check the current requirement on Flame Altar and Flame Levels and The Shroud.
Places
- Brittlebush: the desert's town, polished at 1.0 (Keen, Oct 14, 2026). Destructoid lists "Emily Fray's Tavern in Brittlebush", tied to the Farmer (Destructoid, May 20, 2025). A Scavenger camp lies near it, and its west cave leads to the Haunted Sun Temple (DualShockers, Feb 7, 2024).
- Shorewatch: a settlement reworked in Wake of the Water (Keen, Nov 10, 2025).
- Gold Rock Saddle: an Elixir Well area named in Keen's patch notes (Keen, Jan 22, 2026).
- Temples: Back to the Shroud added 5 new temples to the Kindlewastes and overhauled its Elixir Well and the cave below it (Keen, Jul 29, 2024). The Sun Temple and the Haunted Sun Temple are among them (Destructoid, May 20, 2025).
Enemies and bosses
The Kindlewastes' bosses are two Fell, creatures corrupted by the Shroud (see Enemies and Factions). The Fell Monstrosity guards the treasure chest at the bottom of the Kindlewastes Elixir Well (Destructoid, May 20, 2025); Forging the Path fixed its weak points so they can be hit as intended (Keen, Apr 21, 2026). The Fell Sicklescythe is a flying boss inside the hidden Haunted Sun Temple, northwest of the Kindlewastes fast travel point; the fight takes place in the Shroud, so DualShockers advises a Shroud Survival Flask and a bow or wand (DualShockers, Feb 7, 2024). In early access their heads went into the Flame upgrades for levels 5 and 6 (TheGamer, Feb 1, 2024); 1.0 changed those recipes. Both are on Bosses.
Scavenger camps dot the region, and their night patrols were made less punishing at 1.0, with damage cut to about 60% (Keen, Oct 14, 2026).
Resources and animals
The desert's crafting materials are listed on Materials and Ores. One tameable farm animal comes from here: the Round-Billed Sailer, named in Keen's Thralls of Twilight notes (Keen, May 13, 2025); see Farming, Fishing and Animals. Forging the Path added natural upstreams to the Kindlewastes for gliding (Keen, Apr 21, 2026).
Kindlewastes Hollow Halls
The Kindlewastes have their own Hollow Halls, one of the four dungeons, one in each biome, that Keen added on Mar 26, 2024 and introduced in its Hollow Halls highlights as "massive dungeons" built for more challenging combat. DualShockers called the Kindlewastes Hall the hardest of the original four, with level 25 enemies, northeast of the region's fast travel point, and the first with Shroud zones inside (DualShockers, Mar 31, 2024).
What changed at 1.0
Version 1.0 (Oct 15, 2026) pushed several regions out toward the edge of the map. In the 1.0 Update Highlights the narrator says existing regions were expanded "towards the map's edges with more Shroud roots for extra skill points". Keen's changelog names the Kindlewastes among the three regions that gained the most: "All biomes but especially the Springlands, Blackmire and the Kindlewastes now have additional playable areas close to the edge of the world", with 6 more Shroud Roots across those edges (Keen, Oct 14, 2026). The same update polished Brittlebush and reworked the road in from the Nomad Highlands. All of 1.0's changes are on What's New in 1.0.
