Farming, Fishing and Animals

Farming in Enshrouded opens when you rescue the Farmer (soil, seeds, seedbeds, and since Update 7 crops that grow underwater); taming peaceful animals and keeping cats and dogs arrived on Nov 5, 2024; fishing came with Wake of the Water on Nov 10, 2025, and since 1.0 the tier of your bait decides the tier of fish that bites, in any water. A base holds up to 128 farm animals, fish included. There are no mounts.

Enshrouded lets you farm, fish and keep animals at your base: crops come once you rescue the Farmer, tame animals produce resources, cats and dogs give buffs when petted, and fish can be caught in any body of water. Animal farming came with Souls of the Frozen Frontier on Nov 5, 2024. Keen Games' highlights for that update say you can "tame and capture wildlife" and bring it home, where animals produce wool, milk, eggs and feathers "as long as they're fed and sheltered", breed and have offspring ("yes, you can even pet the baby animals!"), and that cats and dogs can be tamed too: they give no resources but "will give buffs when petted", with five coats for dogs and three for cats. Everything here feeds Food and Cooking and the recipes on Crafting Stations. There are no mounts: no Keen post or the 1.0 changelog adds a rideable animal (Keen, Oct 14, 2026).

Farming

Farming starts with the Farmer. Keen's support tips say plants "can also be grown in the base once the Farmer is acquired" (Keen support); she provides farm soil and flower soil (flowers grow faster in it) and the seedbed, which grows seedlings (Keen, Mar 26, 2024). Where to find her and the other craftspeople is on Survivors.

The seedbed turns one wild plant into many. Keen's beginner tips video (Feb 7, 2024) uses flax as the example: flax grows in only a few spots, but on a seedbed one flax yields 10 flax seeds to plant, harvest and repeat, as long as you have water for the process.

Plants can decorate as well as feed. Keen's Hollow Halls highlights (Mar 26, 2024) add potted plants from Emily the Farmer and more kinds of tree seedlings at the seedbed. Since 1.0 every night plant is available as a potted plant, thyme has a seedling, and cattails and reed can be planted in shallow water (Keen, Oct 14, 2026).

Water made farming deeper. Keen's Wake of the Water highlights (Nov 10, 2025) say the watering can now shows useful information about each plant and lets you set a maximum growth state, "Yes, including trees", and the update added crops that only grow when covered in water, such as rice and algae (Keen, Nov 10, 2025). 1.0 shortened growth times overall (large plants and trees now take longer, small plants less), added a watering can tutorial and fixed banana growth (Keen, Oct 14, 2026).

Honey needs a quest. The Farmer's quest "A Beehive Smoker" leads to Vukah Sacrifice Hill, where a Vukah Brawler stole the honey; beating him gives the Beehive Smoker, with which the Farmer can make Honey Beehives for wax and honey, Game Rant reported in early access (Game Rant, Apr 25, 2024). The fight is covered on Bosses.

Fishing

Fishing was reworked for 1.0. In Keen's video of Aug 19, 2026, the fishing section shows a fisher on a jungle dock landing an Emberfin and fish schooling underwater, while the narrator explains that bait now attracts fish mainly from the region its resources came from, that improved bait guarantees the biting fish matches the bait's tier, that location no longer affects the chance to catch fish, and that some fishing spots raise the chance of treasure and trash (as some rods do) while others make fish bite more often.

Fishing itself arrived with Wake of the Water on Nov 10, 2025. The first rod is a personal crafting recipe; better gear comes from the Huntress, Athalan Skree, and from a new survivor who specializes in fishing, found in the Veilwater Basin, who also helps with better bait. Then, common fish could be caught in any open water with any bait, and turbulence on the surface marked fish-rich areas (Keen, Nov 10, 2025).

At 1.0 your bait is what you aim with. Keen's 1.0 highlights say "Fishing bait gives you more predictable catches" and "Improved bait guarantees fish matching its tier". The changelog spells it out: every fish can be caught in every body of water if you use the right bait and a rod that can handle that tier, each bait mainly attracts fish of its own tier, the chances of rare and epic fish went up, and marked fishing spots have rebalanced trash and treasure with better loot (Keen, Oct 14, 2026). Fishing difficulty is a world setting (Keen support). Fish go into food, can be mounted on trophy plates, and can be released into base ponds, where they count toward the animal limit (Keen, Dec 16, 2025).

Farm animals

Six kinds of peaceful wildlife could be tamed when the feature launched. You tame an animal with bait, pick it up and place it in your base, where it produces resources at regular intervals as long as it finds food and shelter; each type has its own craftable food and bait. Two animals of the same kind within reach may have offspring if both can reach food and a sheltered bed and a free bed waits for the young one, and only one offspring is born per night in each base. Taming difficulty is a world setting (Keen, Nov 5, 2024). Keen's highlights named the Mountain Yak, Snow Leopard and Mountain Goat as new wildlife in the Albaneve Summits (Keen video, Nov 5, 2024).

More animals followed. Keen's Thralls of Twilight highlights (May 13, 2025) say you can now tame "adorable Crane Birds", raise their babies and harvest their feathers; Keen's changelog names the bird the Round-Billed Sailer, from the Kindlewastes (Keen, May 13, 2025). The Dune Armadillo came with Update 5 (Keen, Jan 28, 2025), and capybaras to tame came with Wake of the Water (Keen Games press release, Nov 10, 2025).

A base holds at most 128 farm animals, and fish in its ponds count toward that limit. Since 1.0 farm animals produce their goods "significantly faster", find and use their beds better, no longer glitch through fences, and are not hurt by weapon gems (Keen, Oct 14, 2026).

Pets

Cats and dogs are pets, not livestock: quests lead you to where they can be found and tamed, after which you pick them up and place them in your base, where they roam and "let themselves be petted" (Keen, Nov 5, 2024). Petting gives a buff, as Keen's highlights video above says. Townsfolk you rescue can also help you find pets (Keen, Nov 5, 2024).
