Crafting Stations

Crafting in Enshrouded starts in your backpack, moves to the workbench, and then to the stations and factories the rescued survivors teach you (Smelter, Forge, Loom, Tanning Station, Ectoplasm Press, Charcoal Kiln, Athanor and more), which can pull materials from nearby magic chests and, since Update 7, run on water wheels or windmills. 1.0 cut early recipe costs and sped up factories.

Crafting in Enshrouded happens in three places: your backpack (personal crafting, for basics such as bandages and the first fishing rod), the workbench, and the stations and factories that rescued survivors unlock in your base. Each survivor brings recipes and stations of their own, so your settlement's crafting grows as you save more of them; see Survivors. Keen Games keeps reorganizing this: its Update 8 highlights (Apr 21, 2026) say many recipes changed, "including new crafting stations and a new factory to organize it all" from the Farmer and the Carpenter, introduce the Quick Stack Station that sorts your pockets into the chests around it, and let you build straight from magic chests even with none of the material in your backpack. Version 1.0 (Oct 15, 2026) then reworked early recipes to cut the grind and made factories faster and more generous (Keen, Oct 14, 2026). Keen does not publish recipe lists, and 1.0 changed many of them, so this page names stations and rules, not quantities.

The right, Ectoplasm Press, shows the recipe Purified Slime, 5 s, with a progress bar reading Working and 2 queued, and its ingredients: Charcoal, crafted at the Charcoal Kiln; Salt, mined in Springlands Shroud; Toxic Slime, mined in Hollow Halls; and Wood Acid, crafted at the Charcoal Kiln.

Personal crafting and the workbench

Your backpack is your first crafting station. Keen's tips call bandages "easy to craft in Personal Crafting" (Keen support); the first fishing rod is a personal recipe (Keen, Nov 10, 2025), as are the three meat skewers added in Update 8 and the 1.0 Puke Potion. Since 1.0 the personal list puts the most important recipes at the top (Keen, Oct 14, 2026). The workbench comes next: it crafts tools and equipment, makes the camera item for Adventure Sharing and Sparkworks (Keen, Apr 21, 2026), and repairs your equipment when you use it (PCGamesN, Jan 30, 2024). Stations need a base, which means a Flame Altar; see Flame Altar and Flame Levels and Building Guide.

Stations by survivor

Every survivor you rescue teaches recipes and stations, and 1.0 added one more. Keen's 1.0 highlights say the new tier "brings equipment and food for the journey, and a survivor specializing in Ancient knowledge", with new building blocks and furniture too. The craftspeople and what they are known for, from Keen's notes and dated guides:

  • The Blacksmith makes and, since Update 8, upgrades warrior gear; in early access his quest line gave the Smelter (TheGamer, Feb 25, 2024). Forge and Blast Furnace are metal factories (Keen, Apr 21, 2026).
  • The Huntress, Athalan Skree, makes and upgrades ranger gear and better fishing gear (Keen, Nov 10, 2025).
  • The Alchemist, Balthazar, makes and, since Update 8, upgrades mage gear.
  • The Farmer, Emily Fray, gives farm soil, flower soil and the seedbed (Keen, Mar 26, 2024).
  • The Carpenter gave the Charcoal Kiln in early access (TheGamer, Feb 25, 2024) and since Update 8 the Decoration Workbench and the Quick Stack Station.
  • Mei-Yin Chen crafts vanity items for gold coins since 1.0, plus fireworks and confetti bombs (Keen, Oct 14, 2026).

Other factories in Keen's notes are the Loom, Tanning Station, Spinning Wheel, Ectoplasm Press and Athanor; Update 8 gave several of the oldest ones (Blast Furnace, Ectoplasm Press, Forge, Loom, Tanning Station) new animations (Keen, Apr 21, 2026). The Ectoplasm Press in the image above turns Charcoal, Salt from the Springlands Shroud, Toxic Slime from the Hollow Halls and Wood Acid into Purified Slime; the materials are on Materials and Ores. A coloring station tints armor (Update 6; see Armor Sets), and since 1.0 a gem forge can be placed in your base late in the game (Weapons).

You do not have to keep every crafter in one base. Keen's Souls of the Frozen Frontier highlights (Nov 5, 2024) introduce assistant crafting NPCs, found around the world, who can be placed in secondary bases and give access to crafting recipes "without having to move your main NPCs". Keen's changelog says assistants give full crafting in those bases (Keen, Nov 5, 2024). Survivors and their recipes belong to the world, not the character: a character in a new world must rescue them again (Keen support).

Factories and power

Factories are stations that work over time: you load materials, and they produce while you are away. The "Bases" page of the journal shows the progress of every factory in every base (Keen, Apr 21, 2026). Since 1.0 the factory menus show what is available in your magic chests, many factory and cooking recipes yield more and run faster, and each world has a limit on the number of factories, which Keen calls "a very generous limit" that few players should reach; a warning appears before it (Keen, Oct 14, 2026).

Some factories need power. Keen's Wake of the Water highlights (Nov 10, 2025) explain that water is simulated in real time and that you can bring it into your builds and use it in crafting, with tools to generate, carry and drain it. The changelog says the "force" those factories need comes from a rotating water wheel or a windmill in your base (Keen, Nov 10, 2025). Water for recipes can come from the factory itself, a well in the base or a filled water pouch.

Magic chests and storage

Stations can take materials straight from magic chests. Keen's Hollow Halls highlights (Mar 26, 2024) say you can now craft whole stacks instead of "furiously" pressing the button, and that the contents of magic chests are available to workshops, so "you no longer have to sprint from your chest to the workshop". Update 8 extended that to building: you can place blocks from a magic chest stack without carrying any (Keen, Apr 21, 2026).

The Quick Stack Station, made at the Carpenter, puts every stackable material in your backpack into the magic chests nearby, and each chest can be set to accept or refuse it (Keen, Apr 21, 2026). 1.0 brought it earlier in the progression with a small side quest, made ordinary 24-slot chests and magic chests craftable earlier, and lets you convert a storage chest to a magic chest or upgrade it in place without emptying it (Keen, Oct 14, 2026).

What 1.0 changed

1.0 made crafting quicker for new and returning players. Keen's 1.0 highlights say the opening hours got more chests and "reworked early crafting recipes to reduce frustrating resource bottlenecks", and that you can now upgrade a chest with the enhance button instead of replacing it and rename chests "so you know what needs to go where". The changelog lists the rest: armor set recipes need fewer resources at every tier, the Alchemical Base needs far fewer parts, the glider needs less Shroud Adhesive, recipes that need stone use the local region's stone instead of Springlands stone, Flame recipes for levels 6 to 9 are cheaper, and every resource's description says where to find more (Keen, Oct 14, 2026). The Iron Fireplace no longer cooks; cooking is on Food and Cooking.

Frequently asked questions

How do I unlock crafting stations in Enshrouded? In Enshrouded most crafting stations come from rescued survivors: each craftsperson you place in your base with the Summoning Staff unlocks their recipes, including stations such as the Smelter (Blacksmith), seedbed (Farmer) and Charcoal Kiln (Carpenter).

Can crafting stations use items from chests in Enshrouded? Yes. Since Update 1 (Mar 26, 2024), Enshrouded's workshops can use materials stored in magic chests nearby, and since Update 8 you can also build from them.

How do I power factories in Enshrouded? Since Update 7 (Nov 10, 2025), some Enshrouded factories need force from a water wheel turned by flowing water or from a windmill placed in your base.

What is the Quick Stack Station in Enshrouded? The Quick Stack Station is an Enshrouded prop made at the Carpenter since Update 8 that moves every stackable material from your backpack into the magic chests around it.

Is there a limit on factories in Enshrouded? Yes. Since 1.0, each Enshrouded world has a cap on factories, which Keen Games calls very generous; the game warns you before you reach it.

Can I upgrade chests in Enshrouded? Since 1.0, Enshrouded storage chests can be upgraded or turned into magic chests in place, without emptying them, and renamed.
