It left Steam early access with its 1.0 release on Oct 15, 2026, launching on PlayStation 5 the same day, with Xbox Series X|S planned for spring 2027. This viki covers the release and the PS5 version, every region and boss, the skill tree and builds, the Flame and the Shroud, crafting, building, survivors, multiplayer, dedicated servers and Adventure Sharing, and every key paragraph plays the moment on YouTube that shows it.

Characters

  • Survivors

Survivors in Enshrouded are the craftspeople you rescue from Ancient Vaults and bring to your base with the Summoning Staff; each unlocks a crafting station and recipes. The main ones are the Blacksmith, Alchemist, Huntress, Farmer, Carpenter, Collector and Bard, joined by the Barber, a trader, a fisher and, at 1.0, a survivor of Ancient knowledge.

Development and Release

  • Keen Games

Keen Games is the independent studio in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, that develops and publishes Enshrouded on its own Holistic Engine. Founded in 2005 by Antony Christoulakis and Jan Jöckel, whose roots go back to Neon Studios in 1993, it is led by CEO Jan Jöckel with Christoulakis as Creative Director and has about 75 team members.

Enemies

  • Enemies and Factions

Embervale's enemies are the Shroud-corrupted Fell, the creatures of the Shroud, the human Scavengers, the forest-dwelling Vukah, the undead Hollow of the Hollow Halls, the amphibious Drak of Veilwater Basin and the new, unnamed faction of Cinder's Cradle added in 1.0, plus hostile wildlife. 1.0 added 37 new enemy types and variants and made enemies recover health slowly instead of resetting when you die.

Beginner Guides

  • Beginner's Guide

In Enshrouded, start by leaving the Cinder Vault, placing a Flame Altar (your first level-up in 1.0), freeing the Blacksmith (the second), following the main quest, and upgrading the Flame so you can survive deeper Shroud. This guide covers the first hours of the 1.0 release in order, with Keen's own tips.

Boss Guides

  • Bosses

Enshrouded's named bosses, in rough order of progression, are the Fell Thunderbrute, the Scavenger Matron, the Fell Wispwyvern, the Hollow Cyclops, the Vukah Brawler, the Fell Monstrosity, the Fell Sicklescythe, the Fell Dragon Youngling, Hydrak'Dal and, at 1.0, the story's final boss in Cinder's Cradle. Since 1.0 bosses regain health slowly after you die instead of resetting.

  • Fell Dragon Youngling

The Fell Dragon Youngling is the dragon of Enshrouded's Albaneve Summits (achievement "King of the mountain"), long the game's hardest boss. Enshrouded 1.0 reworked it on Oct 15, 2026 with a big health cut, a wider arena with grapple anchors, an exhausted phase on the ground for melee and a weak point on its back for every weapon.

  • Fell Thunderbrute

The Fell Thunderbrute is the first boss of Enshrouded, the guardian of the first Elixir Well in the Springlands, reached through the Shroud near Braelyn Bridge on a quest from the Blacksmith. Beating it earns the achievement "Thundering success", its head and the Shroud Root at the bottom of the well.

Building Guides

  • Building Guide

Building in Enshrouded is voxel based: inside a Flame Altar's area you place blocks, props and roofs with the Construction Hammer, terrain can be dug and raised anywhere, and since 1.0 the Airborne Architect skill lets you fly around your base while you build.

Character Guides

  • Best Builds

The best Enshrouded builds commit to one playstyle for roughly the first dozen levels, then branch out. At 1.0 the main routes are the greatsword or two-handed warrior, the shield tank, the bow and dagger ranger, the staff and wand mage that 1.0 strengthened most, the battlemage and the healer, each tied to the survivor who upgrades its gear.

  • Magic and Spells

Magic in Enshrouded is cast from staffs, which fire spells as ammunition and spend mana, and from wands, fast projectile weapons with a heavy attack since 1.0. Version 1.0 added nine spells (Mana Drain, Entangle, Pillar of Flames, Blizzard, Ball Lightning, three elemental totems and Summon Hollow Skeleton) and an upgradable Eternal version of every spell that never runs out of charges.

  • Skill Tree

Enshrouded has no fixed classes. Every Flameborn spends skill points (one source is character level, the other is destroyed Shroud Roots) in one shared tree whose areas the 1.0 menu labels Survivor, Beastmaster, Ranger, Assassin, Trickster, Athlete, Barbarian, Warrior, Guardian, Battlemage and Healer, and can respec at a Flame Altar for runes.

Crafting Guides

  • Crafting Stations

Crafting in Enshrouded starts in your backpack, moves to the workbench, and then to the stations and factories the rescued survivors teach you (Smelter, Forge, Loom, Tanning Station, Ectoplasm Press, Charcoal Kiln, Athanor and more), which can pull materials from nearby magic chests and, since Update 7, run on water wheels or windmills. 1.0 cut early recipe costs and sped up factories.

Exploration Guides

  • Glider, Grappling Hook and Fast Travel

Enshrouded has no mounts: you cross Embervale on foot, by glider (lifted by Updraft and air streams), by grappling hook, by swimming and diving (since Nov 10, 2025), and by fast travel between climbed Ancient Spires, your Flame Altars and, since 1.0, a bed you sleep in.

Launch Guides

  • 1.0 Release

Enshrouded 1.0 came out on Oct 15, 2026 at 15:00 UTC (8 a.m. PDT, 11 a.m. EDT, 5 p.m. CEST) on Steam and PlayStation 5, after 21 months in early access. Early access owners do not pay again and keep their saves.

  • Price and Editions

Enshrouded costs $39.99 (39,99 EUR, 34.99 GBP on Steam), with 10% off on Steam and PS5 until Oct 29, 2026. The Steam Deluxe Upgrade Pack is $9.99 (three Class Outfit Packs, a digital artbook, a printable Embervale map) and the PS5 Deluxe Edition $49.99 adds the soundtrack.

Progression Guides

  • Flame Altar and Flame Levels

In Enshrouded the Flame Altar is your base's heart and a fast travel point; upgrading the Flame raises every player's stats, Shroud time and the number of altars you may place. 1.0 adds a Flame level needed for Cinder's Cradle (15 altars) and Flame level 11 after the final threat (16 altars, and altars push the Shroud back).

  • Progression Guide

In Enshrouded 1.0 the regions run Springlands (levels 1 to 10), Revelwood (11 to 15), Nomad Highlands (15 to 20), Kindlewastes (20 to 30), Albaneve Summits (30 to 40), Veilwater Basin (35 to 45) and Cinder's Cradle (45 to 50), with the Blackmire as a Revelwood side area (13 to 15), and Flame upgrades gate each step. The level cap is 50.

Setup Guides

  • Dedicated Servers

The Enshrouded Dedicated Server is a free Windows tool in the Steam library (app 2278520), configured in enshrouded_server.json, with Keen documenting query port 15637 and 1 to 16 player slots. PS5 players cannot join it, and Linux is "planned for later".

Survival Guides

  • Farming, Fishing and Animals

Farming in Enshrouded opens when you rescue the Farmer (soil, seeds, seedbeds, and since Update 7 crops that grow underwater); taming peaceful animals and keeping cats and dogs arrived on Nov 5, 2024; fishing came with Wake of the Water on Nov 10, 2025, and since 1.0 the tier of your bait decides the tier of fish that bites, in any water. A base holds up to 128 farm animals, fish included. There are no mounts.

  • Food and Cooking

On default settings, food in Enshrouded does not keep you from starving: it gives timed buffs (more health, stamina, mana, regeneration or attributes) in a limited number of food slots, and hunger only exists if the world turns it on, as the Survival preset does. The rested buff, from shelter and a comfortable base, raises stamina, and cold, wet and exposed states drain it.

Items

  • Armor Sets

Armor in Enshrouded comes in warrior, ranger and mage sets for each tier of the world: crafted sets are always rare quality, looted ones range from common to legendary, and all of them are upgraded with runes at the class survivor to unlock perks. Since 1.0 each Flame upgrade unlocks the next tier's craftable sets, armor can cut damage by up to 80%, and any piece can be tinted or hidden behind vanity.

  • Materials and Ores

Enshrouded's materials come in tiers that follow its regions: copper in the Revelwood, tin and then iron around the Nomad Highlands and Kindlewastes, with rarer resources in the Shroud, the Hollow Halls and the later regions. Every material shows its item level and a hint where to find it, and 1.0 raised mining yields and made stone easier to mine.

  • Weapons

Enshrouded's weapons are one-handed melee weapons used with shields, two-handed axes and hammers, greatswords (since Nov 10, 2025), dual daggers (since Jun 5, 2024), bows, staffs and wands, in rarities from common to legendary. They are upgraded with runes and legendary runes by the class survivor, can carry weapon gems since Update 6, and reach level 55 at 1.0.

Locations and Dungeons

  • Hollow Halls

The Hollow Halls are Enshrouded's dungeons, one per region: four arrived on Mar 26, 2024 (Springlands, Revelwood, Nomad Highlands, Kindlewastes) and 1.0 added two more in the Albaneve Summits and Veilwater Basin. They are full of the undead Hollow, opened with Bone Keys crafted by the Collector, and end in class chests paid for with Ectoplasm.

Multiplayer

  • Adventure Sharing and Sparkworks

Adventure Sharing (since Apr 21, 2026) lets Enshrouded players upload their world for others to browse and visit; Sparkworks (1.0, Oct 15, 2026) adds a logic system of Switchboxes, triggers, clocks and logic gates for building puzzles, traps, arenas and dungeons.

  • Multiplayer and Co-op

Enshrouded is co-op for up to 16 players on PC and up to 8 on PS5 (with PS Plus), hosted from inside the game or on a dedicated server. There is no cross-play at launch, no split screen and no PvP.

Story

  • Story and Lore

In Enshrouded you are a Flameborn, a human form joined with the powers of the Ancients, woken in the Cinder Vault to save Embervale, a kingdom that fell when its rulers mined the Elixir and their Elixir Wells released the Shroud. Version 1.0 (Oct 15, 2026) gave the story "an ending, though certainly not an end".

Systems

  • Combat

Enshrouded's combat is real-time third-person action on a stamina bar: light attacks and hold-to-charge heavy attacks, blocking and parrying (some projectiles go back at the attacker), dodges and Blink with invulnerability frames, a stun bar that opens enemies to Merciless Attacks, and a focus bar for weapon special abilities. There is no PvP.

  • The Shroud

The Shroud is the corrupting fog over Embervale's lowlands in Enshrouded. Flameborn can survive in it only while a timer lasts, and red Shroud kills outright until your Flame level is high enough. It holds the Fell, rare materials and the Shroud Roots that give skill points.

Updates

  • Early Access Updates

Enshrouded was in Steam early access from Jan 24, 2024 to Oct 15, 2026 and received eight major updates (Hollow Halls, Melodies of the Mire, Back to the Shroud, Souls of the Frozen Frontier, Pact of the Flame, Thralls of Twilight, Wake of the Water, Forging the Path), 14 patches and 42 hotfixes before 1.0.

  • What's New in 1.0

Enshrouded 1.0 (Oct 15, 2026) completed the map with Cinder's Cradle, concluded the current story, raised the level cap to 50 (gear 55), and added Sparkworks, 9 spells and Eternal spells, 37 new enemy types and variants, two Hollow Halls, voiced lore in English, German and Mandarin, a brick renderer and HDR.

World and Regions

  • Albaneve Summits

The Albaneve Summits are Enshrouded's frozen mountain region in the north of Embervale, added on Nov 5, 2024 in Souls of the Frozen Frontier, for characters of about level 30 to 40 at 1.0. Deadly cold, deep snow, around 100 points of interest and the Fell Dragon Youngling wait there, and 1.0 opened a Hollow Halls in the mountains.

  • Blackmire

The Blackmire is a swampy, giant-tree corner of Enshrouded's Revelwoods, added in Melodies of the Mire on Jun 5, 2024 "for players level 13-15", home of the Vukah and of Valory the Bard, with jump pads, deep mud and, since 1.0, new edge areas.

  • Cinder's Cradle

Cinder's Cradle is the endgame region added in Enshrouded 1.0 on Oct 15, 2026, north of Veilwater Basin, for characters of about level 45 to 50: lava wastes below and floating Ancient islands above, with 12 Shroud Roots, a new 14-type enemy faction, a new crafting tier and survivor, and the story's final fight high in the sky.

  • Kindlewastes

The Kindlewastes are Enshrouded's sun-scorched desert, southeast of the Nomad Highlands, for characters of about level 20 to 30 at 1.0. They hold the town of Brittlebush, the settlement of Shorewatch, Sun Temples, the Fell Monstrosity at the region's Elixir Well and the Fell Sicklescythe in the Haunted Sun Temple.

  • Map and Regions

Embervale, Enshrouded's map, is complete at 1.0 with seven regions in order of level (Springlands, Revelwood with the Blackmire, Nomad Highlands, Kindlewastes, Albaneve Summits, Veilwater Basin, Cinder's Cradle) plus new edge areas; the last official size is 10 by 10 km (Keen, Dec 19, 2024).

  • Nomad Highlands

The Nomad Highlands are Enshrouded's dry highland region east of Revelwood, for levels 15 to 20 at 1.0, reworked in Thralls of Twilight (May 13, 2025), with Umber Hollow, the Pillars of Creation, tin, a Hollow Halls with two boss arenas and, since 1.0, three save points in its Shroud.

  • Revelwood

Revelwood (Keen also writes "the Revelwoods") is Enshrouded's dark forest region north of the Springlands, for levels 11 to 15 at 1.0, with copper, the town of Willow Crush, the Revelwood Hollow Halls and its Hollow Cyclops, and the passage to the Blackmire.

  • Springlands

The Springlands are Enshrouded's starting region (levels 1 to 10 at 1.0), in the southwest of Embervale, with the Cinder Vault, Longkeep, Braelyn Bridge, the first Elixir Well and its Fell Thunderbrute, the first Hollow Halls, and the Low Meadows to the south.

  • Veilwater Basin

Veilwater Basin is Enshrouded's tropical lake and river region between the Albaneve Summits and the Blackmire, added in Wake of the Water on Nov 10, 2025 for characters of about level 35 to 45 at 1.0. It is home of the lizard-like Drak and their leader Hydrak'Dal, and since 1.0 its northern gates lead to Cinder's Cradle.
