Springlands

The Springlands are Enshrouded's starting region (levels 1 to 10 at 1.0), in the southwest of Embervale, with the Cinder Vault, Longkeep, Braelyn Bridge, the first Elixir Well and its Fell Thunderbrute, the first Hollow Halls, and the Low Meadows to the south.

The Springlands are the green starting region of Enshrouded, for levels 1 to 10, where every Flameborn wakes in the Cinder Vault, places a first Flame Altar, frees the Blacksmith and fights the Fell Thunderbrute in the first Elixir Well. 1.0 reworked them for new players. "If this is your first visit to Embervale, we've taken another pass at the opening hours", Keen's 1.0 highlights say: "More chests give you opportunities to try different weapons", roads and camps were adjusted "to help you find your way", and early crafting recipes were reworked "to reduce frustrating resource bottlenecks". The levels are Destructoid's for 1.0 (Oct 17, 2026). The Beginner's Guide walks through the first hours step by step.

The start: Cinder Vault, first altar, Blacksmith

Every new character starts in the Cinder Vault and is introduced to the Flame Altar soon after leaving the first cave (PC Gamer, Jan 24, 2024). Keen tuned the first steps at 1.0: "The first level-up is now designed to happen when placing the first Flame Altar", rather than on walking into Longkeep, and "the second level-up should then trigger when freeing the Blacksmith" (1.0 changelog). 1.0 also stopped the first cave from dropping a very high-level sword and made sure tutorial enemies always appear.

The start had been rebuilt once already. Forging the Path (Apr 21, 2026) "changed the starting area to teach new players the game better and to make it more visually interesting", and split quests into main and side quests, Keen's highlights video says.

The Blacksmith, Oswald, is the first survivor most players free, the craftsman for "swords, axes and maces", Keen's 2024 beginner tips say. The tips also recommend mining early: it is "relatively safe" XP, and ore veins are marked on the map. In early access Game Rant found him northwest of the start, across Braelyn Bridge (Game Rant, Feb 15, 2024); 1.0 reworked the start, so check the quest marker. The Survivors page lists every craftsperson.

Places in the Springlands

Longkeep is the first town on the road from the start (Keen, Feb 6, 2024). Keen's soundtrack and patch notes name more Springlands places: Braelyn Bridge, Fort Kelvin, Ferndale, Rookmore, Westcott, Morwenna and the Mistbury Catacombs (Keen, Feb 2, 2024; Keen, Jan 28, 2025). Updates kept reworking them: Melodies of the Mire overhauled Fort Kelvin, Hillock and Ferndale (Jun 5, 2024); Pact of the Flame reworked ten places from Moth's Grove to Mistbury Catacombs and added the Shroud ruins of Midhollow and the farm Wistful Fields (Jan 28, 2025); 1.0 reworked Westcott (1.0 changelog).

Fort Kelvin, an abandoned town with a central square, tunnels and its own tower on the Springlands' northern border near Revelwood, is one of PC Gamer's best base locations for 1.0, as is the pond just west of it (PC Gamer, Oct 20, 2026). See the Building Guide.

The Low Meadows

The Low Meadows run along the bottom edge of the map to the right of the start and look "very similar to the Springlands". In early access TheGamer found their own Ancient Spire there, enemies of level 5 to 10, and the Carpenter's vault south of that spire (TheGamer, Feb 16, 2024). Steam's "Springlands stargazer" achievement asks you to reach "an ancient spire in the Springlands", not the only one (Steam).

The Ancient Spire and fast travel

Climbing the Springlands' Ancient Spire is the first big view of the map: "reaching the top ancient towers will unlock new locations on your map and give you an idea of where to go next", Keen's tips say. In early access it stood north of Braelyn Bridge (TheGamer, Feb 16, 2024). Climbed spires become fast travel points; see Glider, Grappling Hook and Fast Travel.

The Shroud, Shroud Roots and the Elixir Well

Skill points come from two sources, Keen's tips explain: levels and "destroying the Shroud roots". The Springlands' roots sit in the shrouded lowlands and in its Elixir Well. In early access TheGamer counted 4 open-world roots and 3 in Elixir Wells in the Springlands, and 5 and 2 in the Low Meadows; 1.0 added more at the region's edge.

The first Elixir Well is reached through the Shroud near Braelyn Bridge, and the Blacksmith gives the quest. At the bottom waits the Fell Thunderbrute; beating it earns the achievement "Thundering success" and frees the Shroud Root behind it (TheGamer, Jan 24, 2024; Steam). Tactics are on Fell Thunderbrute.

Not all Shroud is safe to enter. Red Shroud "means your flame level is too low for that zone and stepping into it spells immediate doom", Keen's tips warn; strengthening the Flame at your altar opens such areas. In early access the canyon from the Springlands into Revelwood was deadly below Flame level 3 (GamesRadar+, Jan 30, 2024). See The Shroud.

Enemies and resources

The Springlands' enemies are Scavengers in camps, wolves and the Fell in the Shroud. The easiest Scavenger Matron in early access was on the Hill of Scavengers just south of the Mistbury Catacombs (PCGamesN, Jan 25, 2024); 1.0 softened her poison area attack and cut the damage of Scavenger night patrols to about 60%.

Water was scarce at the start of early access, so Keen's tips point to a well "near start of your journey that replenishes every 2 hours or whenever the zone resets". Since 1.0, gold coins are part of the Springlands material item set, and recipes use each region's own stone rather than always Springlands stone (1.0 changelog). Materials and Ores lists the rest.

The Springlands Hollow Halls

Every region got a Hollow Halls dungeon on Mar 26, 2024, "one in each biome", Keen's update video says. The Springlands one, with level 10 enemies, lies southwest of the Springlands fast travel point, and inside it you rescue Alden Crowley, the Collector, who crafts the Bone Keys for the other Halls (DualShockers, Mar 31, 2024). Keen recommends friends for every Hall. See Hollow Halls.

What changed at 1.0

1.0 "expanded existing regions towards the map's edges with more Shroud roots for extra skill points", Keen's highlights say, and the changelog names the Springlands first among the regions with new edge areas, each with quests and points of interest (1.0 changelog). The same update added loot chests to the Springlands and Revelwood, gold coins in chests, reworked roads and camps, and refreshed the Springlands' terrain, plants and forests. Most former no-build zones now accept bases.

When you reach about level 10, the road leads north into Revelwood; the Map and Regions page shows the whole order.
