Blackmire
The Blackmire is a swampy, giant-tree corner of Enshrouded's Revelwoods, added in Melodies of the Mire on Jun 5, 2024 "for players level 13-15", home of the Vukah and of Valory the Bard, with jump pads, deep mud and, since 1.0, new edge areas.
The Blackmire is a deep-forest swamp of giant trees in the far north of Enshrouded's Revelwoods, added on Jun 5, 2024 in the Melodies of the Mire update as "a new area for players level 13-15" (Keen); it is where the Vukah live and where you rescue Valory the Bard. Keen's highlights video introduced it as "a new area in the north of the Revelwoods where everything is a little bit bigger", for those who "like to play in the muck or soar from the treetops", and warned: "if you want to be safe just avoid splashing around in the mud so much". It was Embervale's first new area after the early access launch, and the smallest: Keen measures Cinder's Cradle as "between Blackmire and Veilwater Basin in terms of size" (1.0 changelog).

How to get to the Blackmire
"A new passage has emerged in the far north of Revelwood, beyond which the mysterious Blackmire waits to be discovered", Keen's patch notes said; it is "an extension of the Revelwood region" and "nested in a corner of the Revelwoods" (Keen, Jun 5, 2024). Come with gear for level 13 to 15 and a good Flame level. Keen's patch notes give no Flame level for it.
Keen had announced it in a Spring 2024 recap of its first Reddit AMA: "our current goal is for our next major update to release with a smaller sub biome that will add more variety and new content to an already existing one", with the next full-size biome "probably several months at least" away.
Giant trees, jump pads and mud
Keen's press release calls it a "Deep Forest area with towering trees, rambling roots, and houses hidden between branches", built for verticality, "with some areas accessible by bouncing on the new jump pads", and other beasts "in the swamplands and underground areas"; "deep mud will bog you down if you're not careful" (Keen press release, Jun 5, 2024). The giant trees give new wood, materials, props and furniture "to create the treehouses of their dreams or the swamps of their nightmares". A week later Keen made shallow brown mud stop blocking stamina recovery (Keen, Jun 13, 2024).
Back to the Shroud (Jul 29, 2024) added 2 caves, 3 temples and 2 enemy tree camps to the Blackmire and reworked its jump pad canyon and the jump pad section of its Ancient Spire "to make it less frustrating". Forging the Path (Apr 21, 2026) rebuilt the Revelwood and Blackmire forests at Veilwater Basin's density with new tree models, and added an item set quest that leads "deep into the Blackmire to uncover a new vanity outfit" (Keen).
The Vukah
The Vukah are "a faction of forest dwellers who look friend-shaped, but are quite vicious when they need to be" (Keen press release). They were in the game before the Blackmire (the 2024 soundtrack has tracks named for them), and Melodies of the Mire says "The Vukah faction has been expanded": the Vukah Healer Shaman and Caster Shaman can block melee attacks, the Healer follows and heals his companions better, and soldiers were reworked (Keen). Vukah Brawlers lead large camps, and a Vukah Brawler is the boss of the Farmer's "A Beehive Smoker" quest at Vukah Sacrifice Hill (Game Rant, Apr 25, 2024); Game Rant does not say which region the hill is in. Vukah Shrines give a buff. Blackmire Snapjaws also burst out of the ground here; 1.0 fixed where they choose to emerge (1.0 changelog). See Enemies and Factions.
Valory the Bard
The Blackmire's survivor is the Bard. Keen's video tells players to "rescue our brand new NPC" of the silver strings and learn from her to craft musical instruments; you can join others already playing a song nearby, and "playing music at the campfire also adds to the rested bonus duration", or play a flute in the wild "to rest on the go". Keen names her Valory the Bard, and her recipes also include banners (Keen, Jun 13, 2024). Keen's patch notes only hinted where: "another survivor hidden among the sunken ruins of the ancients" (Keen, Jun 5, 2024). Instruments include the lute, harp, drums and flute. See Survivors.
Places
Keen's notes of Jun 13, 2024 fixed ladders "in the settlements in the Blackmire, Mark of Sameth, and Willow Crush"; whether Mark of Sameth lies in the Blackmire itself is not stated. 1.0 hid a silver chest "into a suspicious-looking pile of rubble in the settlement Mark of Sameth" (1.0 changelog). Destructoid's material guide lists an abandoned Vukah village and a Vukah treetop settlement in the Blackmire (Destructoid, May 20, 2025). The Blackmire's Ancient Spire is a climb of jump pads.
What changed at 1.0
1.0 "expanded existing regions towards the map's edges with more Shroud roots for extra skill points", Keen's highlights say; the changelog names the Blackmire among the three regions with the most new edge area, with new quests and points of interest. It also "added more save points to the Blackmire spire to help in case the climb goes bad", and reworked the Blackmire's terrain, plants and forest density (1.0 changelog).
The route to Veilwater Basin
Veilwater Basin, the tropical region of Wake of the Water (Nov 10, 2025), is "located between the Albaneve Summits and the Blackmire" and is reached "through the Blackmire region and through the Albaneve Summits"; Keen suggests "a level 35 character with good equipment" (Keen, Nov 10, 2025). That is far above the Blackmire's own 13 to 15, so the Blackmire road into Veilwater Basin is for later in the game. The Map and Regions page shows the whole order.
