Map and Regions

Embervale, Enshrouded's map, is complete at 1.0 with seven regions in order of level (Springlands, Revelwood with the Blackmire, Nomad Highlands, Kindlewastes, Albaneve Summits, Veilwater Basin, Cinder's Cradle) plus new edge areas; the last official size is 10 by 10 km (Keen, Dec 19, 2024).

Enshrouded's map is the kingdom of Embervale, and since the 1.0 release of Oct 15, 2026 all of it is open: seven regions that run in order of level from the Springlands in the southwest to Cinder's Cradle in the far north, plus new areas at the edges of the world. Keen built it by hand. In "Creating the world of Enshrouded" the narrator explains that Keen "handcrafted the locations, terrain and world, using algorithms only as a supplemental tool", so that points of interest have "history behind them" and "the world feels like an actual place". The last size Keen gave is 10 by 10 km (Dec 19, 2024); Keen has published no 1.0 figure, as of Oct 20, 2026. The 1.0 changelog put it simply: "The full game world is now accessible. Yes, all of it" (Keen, Oct 14, 2026).

Directions are Destructoid's: Revelwood north of the Springlands, the Nomad Highlands east of Revelwood, the Kindlewastes southeast of the Nomad Highlands, the Albaneve Summits northeast of the desert, Veilwater Basin west of the mountains. Keen places Cinder's Cradle "Up in the north, beyond the now open gates past the Veilwater Basin" (1.0 changelog). The Fell Wispwyvern lives in Pikemead's Reach, the ruined capital in the northeast; Screen Rant places it in Revelwood, Keen does not say (Screen Rant, Mar 3, 2024). For the order to play them in, see the Progression Guide.

How Keen built the map

Keen's art director Jonas builds a small point of interest in the video: the most important tool is "the voxel brush", which can stamp any mesh at any scale into the world, from a mountain to "a huge sword on top", and a "negative stamp" carves a cave out of it; overlapping shapes always leave a clean voxel mesh. Voxel buildings made in the same tool are placed like stamps, and roads follow drawn splines.

Keen's world designer Jonas told the Reddit AMA of Dec 2024 that the map is made from sculpted rough models and voxel stamps, and that "The original worlds size was 88km, but we added an extra km on each border", so "we are currently looking at 1010km", with more volume underground (Keen, Dec 19, 2024). The same designer called fog zones "the only reliable gating we have", and said the time since the kingdom fell is "in the realm of 20-30ish years".

How the map grew

Keen planned the map to open in stages. In a Spring 2024 recap of its first Reddit AMA, Keen said the map would expand "over time with our major updates usually in the form of new biomes or extensions to existing biomes", and that the first full expansion would take "several months".

In the same recap Keen confirmed "the map will expand northwards" and, asked about sky islands, hinted that "our map now is over a full kilometer taller than it was in the closed beta". Cinder's Cradle's floating islands arrived at 1.0.

The first addition was small: the Blackmire, "a new area in the north of the Revelwoods where everything is a little bit bigger", for players around level 13 to 15, in Melodies of the Mire on Jun 5, 2024.

The first full biome followed on Nov 5, 2024: the Albaneve Summits, "a massive new snow biome that towers above the world as the highest peak on the map", reached from the northern border of the Nomad Highlands and Kindlewastes, with "around 100 new points of interest" (Keen).

Veilwater Basin came with Wake of the Water on Nov 10, 2025: "Water has returned to Embervale", with tropical jungles, lakes, waterways and the Drak. Keen places it between the Albaneve Summits and the Blackmire, reached through both (Keen).

Older regions were redone along the way. Thralls of Twilight (May 13, 2025) reworked "especially the Nomad Highlands and Kindlewastes" with more realistic terrain, trees and textures, Keen's video says, and 1.0 revisited the Springlands, Revelwood, Blackmire and Nomad Highlands too, because "it was time to revisit the earliest areas and bring their quality closer to that of our more recent additions" (1.0 changelog).

What 1.0 added to the map

North of Veilwater Basin, beyond the gates, lies Cinder's Cradle, Keen's 1.0 highlights say: below, "lava flows through the remains of the Ancients' civilization"; above, "the Ancients lifted whole pieces of this land into the sky". Keen puts it "between Blackmire and Veilwater Basin in terms of size", with 12 Shroud Roots, and a new Flame level is needed before entering.

1.0 also "expanded existing regions towards the map's edges with more Shroud roots for extra skill points", and the main quest now leads into "sealed structures you spent years trying to get into", the same video says. Keen's changelog names the Springlands, Blackmire and Kindlewastes as the regions with the most new edge areas, which have 6 Shroud Roots in all and fewer points of interest than the main path. Two Hollow Halls opened too, in the Albaneve Summits and Veilwater Basin, and most former no-build zones now accept bases.

Ancient Spires, obelisks and points of interest

The map starts hidden. "Reaching the top ancient towers will unlock new locations on your map", Keen's beginner tips say, and lore pages and journals reveal more. Every region has an Ancient Spire, and Steam achievements reward each region's spire, its obelisks ("secret keeper"), its mines, its Flame shrines and its Shroud Roots (Steam). Climbed spires and your Flame Altars are the fast travel points; see Glider, Grappling Hook and Fast Travel.

Keen fills the map with set places: towns and farms to restore (Longkeep, Fort Kelvin, Willow Crush, Brittlebush, Shorewatch), catacombs and keeps, Ancient Vaults where survivors sleep, Elixir Wells with boss-guarded Shroud Roots, Night Temples that open only after dark (since May 13, 2025) and Shroud Lairs. Keen's designer said riskier places are announced by scenery: "we tried as good as possible to foreshadow the rise in difficulty with locations that look more dramatic if they directly lead into higher level areas" (Keen, Dec 19, 2024).

The Shroud lowlands

Each region's valleys lie under The Shroud, a fog you survive only for a limited time; blue Shroud is survivable for a while, red Shroud is deadly until your Flame level is high enough. Much of each map's loot, its Shroud Roots and its Elixir Wells sit down there. Thralls of Twilight added over 100 points of interest in shrouded zones, and 1.0 made the Nomad Highlands Shroud easier to navigate with three save points inside it (1.0 changelog). At Flame level 11, after the final threat, Flame Altars can push the Shroud back.

Frequently asked questions

How big is the Enshrouded map? The last official size of Enshrouded's map is 10 by 10 km, which Keen's world designer gave on Dec 19, 2024; Keen has not published a size for the complete 1.0 map, as of Oct 20, 2026.

What is the biome order in Enshrouded? Enshrouded's regions in order of level are the Springlands (1 to 10), Revelwood (11 to 15, with the Blackmire), the Nomad Highlands (15 to 20), the Kindlewastes (20 to 30), the Albaneve Summits (30 to 40), Veilwater Basin (35 to 45) and Cinder's Cradle (45 to 50), per Destructoid's 1.0 guide.

How many regions are in Enshrouded? Enshrouded 1.0 has seven main regions plus the Blackmire, a smaller area inside the Revelwoods, and the Low Meadows beside the Springlands.

Is the Enshrouded map procedurally generated? No. Keen hand-built Enshrouded's world from voxel stamps and sculpted models, using procedural tools only to support the designers.

Is the whole Enshrouded map open in 1.0? Yes. Since 1.0 on Oct 15, 2026 the whole of Embervale is accessible, including Cinder's Cradle and new edge areas; Keen wrote "The full game world is now accessible. Yes, all of it."

Is there an official interactive map of Enshrouded? No. Keen has published no interactive map; the Deluxe Upgrade Pack includes a high-resolution printable map of Embervale.
