In Enshrouded 1.0 the regions run Springlands (levels 1 to 10), Revelwood (11 to 15), Nomad Highlands (15 to 20), Kindlewastes (20 to 30), Albaneve Summits (30 to 40), Veilwater Basin (35 to 45) and Cinder's Cradle (45 to 50), with the Blackmire as a Revelwood side area (13 to 15), and Flame upgrades gate each step. The level cap is 50.
In Enshrouded 1.0 the regions run Springlands (levels 1 to 10), Revelwood (11 to 15), Nomad Highlands (15 to 20), Kindlewastes (20 to 30), Albaneve Summits (30 to 40), Veilwater Basin (35 to 45) and Cinder's Cradle (45 to 50), as Destructoid's 1.0 guide of Oct 17, 2026 gives them, with the Blackmire as a side area of Revelwood for levels 13 to 15; the Flame level gates each step. Keen Games' 1.0 Update Highlights video sets the top of the climb: "Your level cap rises to 50 with gear upgrades reaching 55", a new crafting tier arrives for the new region, the next Flame level raises the altar limit to 16, and older regions grow toward the map's edges with more Shroud Roots "for extra skill points". This guide gives the order, what gates it, and the bosses and dungeons on the way. The map itself is on Map and Regions.

| Region | Levels (Destructoid, 1.0) | Bosses named in sources | Hollow Halls |

Destructoid places Revelwood north of the Springlands, the Nomad Highlands east of Revelwood, the Kindlewastes southeast of the Highlands, the Albaneve Summits northeast of the desert and the Veilwater Basin west of the mountains; Cinder's Cradle lies north beyond the Veilwater Basin's gates. The Fell Wispwyvern waits at Pikemead's Reach, which Keen does not place in a region. Boss guides are on Bosses, dungeons on Hollow Halls.
How gating works
The Shroud is what holds you back. In Keen's early access Beginner Tips, red Shroud "means your flame level is too low for that zone and stepping into it spells immediate doom"; strengthening the Flame at your altar will not clear it all, "but it will unlock parts of the map so you can progress throughout the world safely". Keen's world designer was blunt about it in a December 2024 Q&A: "the only reliable gating we have are the fog zones and their level. They visualize where you can go or what new areas will open up to you when upgrading your Flame." In early access, for example, the canyon between the Springlands and Revelwood was deadly below Flame level 3.
Character level is the softer gate. Nothing stops you walking into a higher region, but enemies two or three levels above you are "ridiculously strong", in CGMagazine's words, and 1.0 marks a quest difficult when its area is 2 or more levels above you. Keen also says it foreshadows a jump in difficulty "with locations that look more dramatic if they directly lead into higher level areas" (Keen). The Flame and its levels are on Flame Altar and Flame Levels.
Leveling and skill points
Experience comes from killing enemies, discovering areas and points of interest, and mining ore, and skill points come from levels and from destroying Shroud Roots, Keen's Beginner Tips explain; Scavenger camps, Shroud walls and bosses are the fastest experience. Every region has its roots (1.0 added 12 in Cinder's Cradle and 6 at the world's edges), and each region's "weeding" achievement counts them. Roots stay with your character across worlds (Keen's FAQ). See The Shroud and Skill Tree.
The early regions: Springlands to Kindlewastes
The Springlands are the start: the Cinder Vault, the first Flame Altar, the Blacksmith and the other first survivors, the first Elixir Well and the Fell Thunderbrute. 1.0 added more chests here and in Revelwood, reworked the roads and camps and made early recipes cheaper (changelog). The Beginner's Guide covers this stretch step by step.
North of Revelwood lies the Blackmire, added in Update 2 on Jun 5, 2024. Keen's highlights video describes "a new area in the north of the Revelwoods where everything is a little bit bigger", with new quests, enemies and secrets, "perfect for explorers around level 13 to 15 with gear to match". It is a side area rather than a step on the main path, a good place to spend the levels between Revelwood and the Nomad Highlands.
The Nomad Highlands and Kindlewastes take you from level 15 to 30. Both were reworked with more detailed terrain in Update 6 (May 2025), and 1.0 made the way through the Highlands' Shroud easier to find and added 3 save points there. The Kindlewastes hold the Fell Monstrosity at their Elixir Well and the flying Fell Sicklescythe in a hidden temple.
The high regions: Albaneve Summits and Veilwater Basin
The Albaneve Summits came in Update 4, Souls of the Frozen Frontier, on Nov 5, 2024: "a massive new snow biome that towers above the world as the highest peak on the map", Keen's video says, where the cold "deeply impacts gameplay". Dress warmly and eat warming food. Its boss, the Fell Dragon Youngling, was for many players "an impassable obstacle" until 1.0 reworked it with less health and a melee phase (Keen).
The same update raised the level cap to 35 and let the Flame be upgraded twice more "to help you venture into deadly shroud zones". These are early access numbers: the cap is now 50.
The Veilwater Basin arrived in Update 7, Wake of the Water, on Nov 10, 2025: "a new high-level area as beautiful as it is dangerous", Keen's video says, of tropical jungles, lakes and waterways and the ruins of the Drak, a reptilian people who "can actually fight underwater". Destructoid's levels for it (35 to 45) overlap the Summits' (30 to 40).
Wake of the Water raised the level cap from 35 to 45, with weapon levels to 50, and let players leave a Hollow Halls run and come back to the last safe point later. Those caps rose again at 1.0.
The endgame: Cinder's Cradle and level 50
Cinder's Cradle is the last region, "north of Veilwater Basin, beyond the gates": lava through the Ancients' ruins below, floating islands with "formidable guardians" above, where "you will discover the secrets behind the Ancients and the Shroud". Before you can enter, the next Flame level must be unlocked, which also raises the altar limit to 15. The region's faction has 14 enemy types, its locks need archaic lockpicks, and it holds 12 Shroud Roots.
Beating "the biggest threat to the peace of Embervale" unlocks Flame level 11, the last: 16 altars, and altars that push the Shroud back (changelog). The main quest also sends you back into sealed structures in the older regions. After that come level 50, gear upgrades to 55, the two new Hollow Halls, and Adventure Sharing. Keen has not published the Flame recipes or Shroud times for 1.0's last levels; check them in game.
Gear along the way
Gear progresses with you. Since Update 8, designer Christoph explains, "the blacksmith can now upgrade Warrior armors and weaponry. The alchemists, Mage armors and weaponry. The Huntress, Ranger armor and weaponry", and their assistants do the same; crafted items "need to be upgraded with runes to unlock their full potential", and epic and legendary armor waits to be found. Armor, shields and rings upgrade like weapons, so a set is worth improving through a whole region.
At 1.0, every time the Flame is upgraded, the craftable armor sets for the next tier unlock automatically, so you no longer miss one for want of a material or a quest (changelog). Each tier has warrior, ranger and mage sets, and since 1.0 rangers get both a bow set and a dagger set in the Revelwood and Nomad Highlands tiers (Armor Sets, Weapons).
