Cinder's Cradle and the full map
Cinder's Cradle lies "north of Veilwater Basin, beyond the gates". Keen's narrator describes its two levels: down below, lava flows through the remains of the Ancients' civilization, some ruins swallowed by the Shroud and others left to crumble; above, the Ancients lifted whole pieces of land into the sky, floating islands with strange wildlife, intricate structures and "formidable guardians", linked to the wasteland by tendrils of Shroud. It is where the secrets behind the Ancients and the Shroud come out. The changelog puts its size "between Blackmire and Veilwater Basin" and gives it 12 new Shroud Roots and new lockpicks (archaic) for its locks. See Cinder's Cradle and Map and Regions.
The rest of the map opened too. "The full game world is now accessible. Yes, all of it," says the changelog: new areas toward the world's edge, especially in the Springlands, Blackmire and Kindlewastes, with new quests and 6 more Shroud Roots; most former no-build zones became buildable; and the Springlands, Revelwood, Blackmire and Nomad Highlands were reworked in terrain, plants and forest density. Hourglass capsules, which refill Shroud time, now appear in many more places and give "about 70% more time" (The Shroud).
The story ends, for now
The current storyline is concluded at 1.0. Keen's press release promises "Final pieces to the puzzle of how Embervale fell, and how it will rise again" (Keen), and the changelog adds that even after the most imminent threat "the Shroud still lingers and the Fell still aim to conquer more territories". New outro slides close it, and both intro and outro can be viewed in the journal. Quests are now split into main quests and side quests, and a quest is marked difficult when its area is 2 levels or more above you. The story, with spoilers kept to a marked section, is on Story and Lore.
Progression: level 50, Flame level 11
Characters now reach level 50, and gear can be upgraded to level 55. Before entering Cinder's Cradle a new Flame level must be unlocked, which raises the Flame Altar limit to 15; beating "the biggest threat to the peace of Embervale" unlocks Flame level 11, which raises it to 16 and lets Flame Altars push back the Shroud. The resources for Flame levels 6, 7, 8 and 9 were cut, with Electric Organs and Poison Stings replaced by commoner items (Flame Altar and Flame Levels, Progression Guide).
Every craftable armor set for the next tier now unlocks automatically each time the Flame is upgraded, so no set is missed for want of the right ore (Armor Sets). The skill tree resets once on an older save, and gained new skills: Aerial Wand Attack, Wand Evasion Attack, Advanced Necromancy, Totem Mastery, Blast and Cast, Puncture, Barrage, Survival Instinct and Airborne Architect; dagger skills moved to the assassin area (Skill Tree).
Two new Hollow Halls
Two Hollow Halls open at 1.0, in the Albaneve Summits and the Veilwater Basin. "Each has its own look and rewards with plenty standing between you and the loot," the narrator says: "Bring your best gear for Veilwater. We would also recommend a snorkel." Chests in the Hollow Halls' end rooms cost 25% less to open, ectoplasm also drops from Hollow hounds and melee fighters, and the Hollow Halls weapons were reworked to hit the Hollow especially hard.
Sparkworks
Sparkworks is a logic system for building your own gameplay. Keen's reveal video (Oct 8, 2026) introduces it as an expansion of Adventure Sharing that lets you "spawn enemies, create events triggered by player actions, and much more": a new crafting station builds the Switchbox, the Sparkworks Tool, buttons, levers and traps, and inputs are linked to outputs in a graph, "basically a logic circuit", with logic gates for conditions. The name, the narrator jokes, came after the non-German staff could not pronounce "Logikverknuepfungen". Keen suggests parkour levels, battle arenas and escape rooms; shared through Adventure Sharing, they can be played by anyone (Adventure Sharing and Sparkworks).
Mages and combat
Mages were the biggest combat focus of 1.0. The highlights video lists nine new spell types for crowd control, area damage, utility and summons: elemental totems and skeletons, with skills to raise how many you can summon and necromancy gems "if you've wanted to put together your own undead squad". The nine, as Keen named them on Sep 23, 2026, are Mana Drain, Entangle, Pillar of Flames, Blizzard, Ball Lightning, Summon Fire Totem, Summon Ice Totem, Summon Shock Totem and Summon Hollow Skeleton. Every spell has an Eternal version that uses no charges and can be upgraded with perks such as lower mana cost; archers get upgradable Eternal arrows; wands get a heavy attack from the start and learnable evasive and aerial attacks (Magic and Spells).
The rest of combat moved too (changelog): stamina recovers while blocking, blocking follows the camera direction, heavy melee attacks hit several close enemies, enemies counter-attack sooner after a stagger, and "Effective" or "Resisted" now shows only at 20% susceptibility or resistance. Controllers gained aim snap and stick aim assist settings (Combat, Weapons).
Enemies and the Fell Dragon Youngling
The new faction in Cinder's Cradle brings 14 enemy types, and with new variants for the Fell, Scavengers and the rest the total is 37. Enemies find their way better, check line of sight more consistently and search for players when they hear something (Enemies and Factions).
The Fell Dragon Youngling of the Albaneve Summits was reworked. In "Things we're fixing for 1.0" (Aug 19, 2026), Keen calls it "the dragon in the room": long the last boss and for many "less of a formidable foe and more of an impassable obstacle". The fixes: no more resets to full life or getting stuck, a deeper arena so fewer players fall off, a new phase where it lands so melee builds can hit it without a stun, fewer hits needed to stun it, a weak spot on its back that works for all weapons, a refined hitbox and "significantly" less health. The goal: "a challenge without turning it into a chore".
Dying no longer resets enemies
Dying no longer gives enemies their health back at once. Keen explains that they now "slowly regain their health, so that a death in a tough fight doesn't always mean a complete do-over". The changelog notes it makes little difference for ordinary enemies but a big one when a party returns quickly to a boss.
Survivors, voices and the Barber
Every lore note, letter and book is now read aloud. "Finding a note deep in the Shroud hasn't always been the best moment to stop and read," the narrator says, so lore plays while you keep exploring, queued like an audiobook, and the major survivors "now talk too. It's not just hey and oi anymore". Voices are in English, German and Mandarin Chinese; the German narrator is Dietmar Wunder, "the German voice of James Bond" in Keen's press release.
Characters can now have more realistic proportions. Players who called their Flameborn "hobbits" asked for it, the narrator says, and Elio Ricci the Barber offers the new look, or the original "if you are still committed to the second breakfast". The same chapter covers new start, stop and turn animations and a reworked camera, and Airborne Architect, a skill that lets you fly around your base while building: "Roofs will no longer be the final boss of Enshrouded's base building" (Building Guide).
New for Survivors: a survivor who specializes in Ancient knowledge and recipes, gold coins in chests that survivors take for mostly vanity items, upgrade services for Eternal spells and arrows at the class survivors, and a roaming distance set before first placement (down to 2 meters). Survivors and pets also get stuck less often in bases.
A smoother start
The opening hours were reworked for new players. Keen's narrator lists more chests to try weapons and find runes for upgrades, roads and camps adjusted to help you find your way, and early crafting recipes reworked "to reduce frustrating resource bottlenecks". The changelog adds that the first level-up now comes when you place your first Flame Altar and the second when you free the Blacksmith (Beginner's Guide).
Quality of life
A run of changes players had asked for: chests upgraded in place with one button ("tadam, your chest is magic now"), chests and custom map markers that can be renamed, and an auto-loot setting (hold the collect key, or let it happen constantly) that gathers loose loot nearby but not from chests, defeated enemies or quest items. Updraft's charge time is now a world setting that includes the old instant version, jumping on steep terrain costs a little stamina, and unwanted sliding was fixed. You can also fast travel while sleeping in a bed, place a gem forge in a late-game base, and choose separate text and voice languages (changelog).
Fishing was reworked "on a deep level to be less frustrating". Bait mostly attracts fish of its own tier, improved bait guarantees that a biting fish matches the bait's tier, and location no longer changes the chance of a catch, though some marked spots raise the chance of treasure, trash or bites. The changelog adds that every fish can now be caught in every body of water, and that farm animals produce faster and plants grow on simpler timers (Farming, Fishing and Animals).
Performance and visuals
The brick renderer is 1.0's main graphics change. Florian, a Senior Engine and Graphics Programmer at Keen, explains in the studio's performance video that converting the editable voxel world into triangles was a bottleneck that cost detail in the distance, so the engine now builds "little bricks" holding a compressed surface representation, which are faster to create and easier to cull. The result, in the changelog's words: "that intricate castle you made will still look great from afar".
The highlights video lists the rest: better performance in many areas with lower memory use, more detail on distant terrain and buildings, improved lighting and shadows under dense trees and inside buildings, more point lights for big, brightly lit bases, distinct lighting and atmosphere for each biome, "considerably quicker" shader compilation, and HDR for compatible displays. Requirements and the Steam Deck are on Platforms and System Requirements.

1.0 ReleaseEnshrouded 1.0 came out on Oct 15, 2026 at 15:00 UTC (8 a.m. PDT, 11 a.m. EDT, 5 p.m. CEST) on Steam and PlayStation 5, after 21 months in early access. Early access owners do not pay again and keep their saves. -
Cinder's CradleCinder's Cradle is the endgame region added in Enshrouded 1.0 on Oct 15, 2026, north of Veilwater Basin, for characters of about level 45 to 50: lava wastes below and floating Ancient islands above, with 12 Shroud Roots, a new 14-type enemy faction, a new crafting tier and survivor, and the story's final fight high in the sky. -
Map and RegionsEmbervale, Enshrouded's map, is complete at 1.0 with seven regions in order of level (Springlands, Revelwood with the Blackmire, Nomad Highlands, Kindlewastes, Albaneve Summits, Veilwater Basin, Cinder's Cradle) plus new edge areas; the last official size is 10 by 10 km (Keen, Dec 19, 2024). -
The ShroudThe Shroud is the corrupting fog over Embervale's lowlands in Enshrouded. Flameborn can survive in it only while a timer lasts, and red Shroud kills outright until your Flame level is high enough. It holds the Fell, rare materials and the Shroud Roots that give skill points. -
Story and LoreIn Enshrouded you are a Flameborn, a human form joined with the powers of the Ancients, woken in the Cinder Vault to save Embervale, a kingdom that fell when its rulers mined the Elixir and their Elixir Wells released the Shroud. Version 1.0 (Oct 15, 2026) gave the story "an ending, though certainly not an end". -
Flame Altar and Flame LevelsIn Enshrouded the Flame Altar is your base's heart and a fast travel point; upgrading the Flame raises every player's stats, Shroud time and the number of altars you may place. 1.0 adds a Flame level needed for Cinder's Cradle (15 altars) and Flame level 11 after the final threat (16 altars, and altars push the Shroud back).
