Predictions
We think Enshrouded reaches Xbox in April 2027, on Game Pass from day one, and that Keen Games announces its first paid expansion, set beyond Embervale, before the first anniversary of 1.0 in October 2027.
We think Enshrouded's next two years follow the promise Keen Games makes here, "a world beyond Embervale": an Xbox release in April 2027, cross-play later that year, and a first paid expansion in a new land announced before the 1.0 anniversary.
These are Vi.ki's own predictions and opinions, not reported facts. Each one says what we base it on and when it can be checked. We will mark each one right or wrong when it resolves.
When will Enshrouded come out on Xbox?
We think Enshrouded comes out on Xbox Series X|S in April 2027, and on Game Pass the same day.
Confidence: Possible. Check by: May 2027.
Why we think so: Keen has promised spring 2027 twice, in June and in its launch press release of Oct 14, 2026, and Christoulakis said "we'll make sure it will be a polished release" (Roadmap; Wccftech). A studio that delayed one console for quality tends to use most of the window, so we expect the second half of spring rather than March. Game Pass is our own guess: Keen publishes the game itself, and a survival game played in groups gains most from a service that puts it in front of every Xbox player at once.
What would prove us wrong: an Xbox release in March or May 2027 or later, or no Game Pass on launch day.
Will Enshrouded get cross-play?
We think cross-play between PC and PlayStation 5 arrives by Dec 31, 2027, and that Xbox joins it, but not on the Xbox launch day.
Confidence: Possible. Check by: Dec 2027.
Why we think so: Keen says it is "working on bringing cross-platform play" with "no current estimate", and Christoulakis told Wccftech "we will work on that for future updates" (Roadmap). CGMagazine named the lack of cross-play among 1.0's faults (Enshrouded). Keen calls itself "a moderately sized team" adding platforms "step by step", so we expect the Xbox release first and cross-play in a later update.
What would prove us wrong: no cross-play in any form by the end of 2027, or cross-play already working on Xbox's first day.
When will Enshrouded's first paid expansion be announced?
Our prediction: Keen announces Enshrouded's first paid expansion before Oct 15, 2027, set in a new land beyond Embervale, priced at $14.99 or more.
Confidence: Possible. Check by: Oct 2027.
Why we think so: Keen promised "free & paid content for years to come", Christoulakis said "When we offer paid DLC, we want to offer good value", and in January he hinted "there is a world beyond Embervale" (Roadmap). The 1.0 changelog calls the story "concluded - for now", and the ending's open questions, the Wanderer and the Mother Flame, are left for a sequel or an expansion (Story and Lore). After the Xbox release, an expansion is the next thing that pays for the team.
What would prove us wrong: no paid expansion announced by the 1.0 anniversary, or one set inside Embervale.
Where will Enshrouded's story go next?
We think Enshrouded's first paid expansion follows the Wanderer out of Embervale to a new land of his own, and ends with the Wanderer himself as its final boss.
Confidence: Possible. Check by: Dec 2027.
Why we think so: the 1.0 ending names the Wanderer as the power whose grasp held Embervale, Lord Vorgoth's second form is "The Wanderer's Vessel", and the outro speaks of "countless shapes of one name", while Keen has not said who he is (Story and Lore). Keen's changelog calls the story concluded "for now" and Christoulakis hinted at "a world beyond Embervale" (Roadmap). In our view a villain who has only appeared through vessels is being saved for a land where he can be met in person.
What would prove us wrong: the first expansion stays in Embervale, or does not involve the Wanderer.
What new weapon will Enshrouded add?
We think Enshrouded's first paid expansion adds a new weapon type, the spear, with its own skill tree nodes.
Confidence: Long shot. Check by: Dec 2027.
Why we think so: Keen added a new weapon type in its bigger early access updates, daggers with Melodies of the Mire and greatswords with Wake of the Water (Early Access Updates), and the Weapons page lists no spear or polearm. A new land with a new enemy faction, in our view, is where a new fighting style is easiest to sell. We call it a long shot because the type, not the idea, is the bold part.
What would prove us wrong: the first expansion adds no new weapon type, or one that is not a spear.
Will Enshrouded add base invasions?
We think Keen adds Shroud attacks on players' bases, an optional world setting in which enemies raid a base, before the end of 2027.
Confidence: Long shot. Check by: Dec 2027.
Why we think so: in its developer Q&A of spring 2024 Keen called base invasions a "very popular" suggestion and said "we like the idea but we do need to think more about it", because it is hard to make fun "without making it too frustrating or easy to cheese" (). Keen has since added optional world settings for difficulty (World Settings and Difficulty), which in our view is the safe way to ship a feature some players would hate. It is a long shot because Keen has not mentioned it since.
What would prove us wrong: no base raids or invasions in Enshrouded by the end of 2027.
Will Enshrouded get official mod support?
We think Keen does not add official mod support, such as a workshop or modding tools, to Enshrouded before the end of 2027.
Confidence: Likely. Check by: Dec 2027.
Why we think so: mod support is on Keen's list of what it has not announced (Roadmap), and Enshrouded runs on Keen's own engine, Holistic, not a public one (Keen Games). Asked about modding in the same Q&A, Keen said that because the game "is built on a custom engine it would be a big undertaking to implement full custom mod support", and that its priority was features inside the game (). Xbox, cross-play and paid content already fill 2027, and in our view a team that adds platforms "step by step" will not open its engine to modders while it still ships a console version.
What would prove us wrong: official mod support or modding tools announced in 2026 or 2027.
How many players will Enshrouded have on Steam this winter?
We think Enshrouded's Steam daily peak falls below 45,000 on weekdays before Dec 15, 2026, then climbs back above 60,000 during the Steam Winter Sale and the holidays.
Confidence: Possible. Check by: Jan 2027.
Why we think so: in Vi.ki's own reading of Steam's counts (Nov 7, 2026), the 1.0 peak was 116,322 on Sunday, Oct 25, and weekday peaks fell from about 85,000 in the week after launch to between 55,718 and 74,031 from Nov 2 to Nov 6, with weekends 30% to 40% higher (Steam Player Count). After its early access launch, the count lost about three quarters in a month. The game's best months since then have been its winters: 50,460 in November 2025 and 41,352 in January 2026, by the same reading.
What would prove us wrong: weekday peaks still above 45,000 on Dec 15, 2026, or no day above 60,000 between Dec 15, 2026 and Jan 10, 2027.
How many players will Keen Games announce for Enshrouded?
We think Keen announces at least 7 million players for Enshrouded before the Xbox release.
Confidence: Possible. Check by: May 2027.
Why we think so: Keen counted "over 5.5 million players" by the end of early access and one million in the first four days of it (Enshrouded). The 1.0 launch brought Steam back above 100,000 at once and added PlayStation 5, whose numbers Keen does not publish separately. Keen has announced player milestones before, and an Xbox launch trailer is where we expect the next one.
What would prove us wrong: no figure of 7 million or more from Keen by the end of May 2027.
Will Enshrouded's Steam reviews hold?
We think Enshrouded's all-time Steam rating stays Very Positive, between 80% and 94% positive, through 2027.
Confidence: Likely. Check by: Dec 2027.
Why we think so: it stood at 93,850 positive of 109,292 on Oct 20, 2026, about 86% (Steam), and critics put 1.0 at 88 on Metacritic's PC score (Enshrouded). With more than 100,000 reviews, only a broken update or a paid expansion that players think is poor value could move it much, and Keen has said it wants paid content to be "good value".
What would prove us wrong: an all-time rating under 80% or at 95% or more by the end of 2027.
Will Enshrouded come to Nintendo Switch 2?
We think Enshrouded is not announced for Nintendo Switch 2 before the end of 2027.
Confidence: Likely. Check by: Dec 2027.
Why we think so: Switch 2 is on Keen's list of what is not announced (Roadmap), the team adds platforms "step by step", and Xbox, cross-play and paid content already fill 2027. Keen's own engine, Holistic, was built for a voxel world with a huge view distance that its technical director calls "very demanding" (Keen Games), which we think makes a Switch 2 port the hardest of all.
What would prove us wrong: a Switch 2 version announced in 2026 or 2027.

HackTheMinotaur 2: the floating islands open at 1.0
Reading Keen's 2026 roadmap on Feb 4, 2026, HackTheMinotaur 2 said the floating islands in Embervale's sky could open "in autumn with the 1.0 release", and that "the developers will introduce a new mechanic or system to fly upwards" (). He called it: 1.0's main quest powers a teleport platform, the "gate to the stars", that takes the Flameborn up to the Ancients' isles (Story and Lore). We think the roadmap art gave it away, and he was right to read it literally.
Check by: Oct 2026.
Result (Oct 15, 2026): Right. Enshrouded 1.0 launched on Oct 15, 2026, and its main quest powers the gate to the stars that takes the Flameborn up to the Ancients' isles (Story and Lore; Cinder's Cradle). We think reading the roadmap art literally was the right method, and both his timing and his new way up came true.
HackTheMinotaur 2: playing across platforms
In the same video he assumed "it will be easy to play with other players on different platforms" once consoles arrived (). It did not happen: 1.0 launched on PC and PlayStation 5 with no cross-play, and Keen has "no current estimate" for it (Roadmap). We think it comes, but not before the Xbox version, as our own prediction says.
Check by: Dec 2027.
Force Gaming: Sparkworks adds longevity
Reviewing 1.0 on Oct 14, 2026, Force Gaming said of Sparkworks, the new tools for building dungeons, traps and puzzles, "I expect this is going to be something that adds quite a lot of longevity to the game" (). We think he is right for builders and that most players will feel it through Adventure Sharing, playing what others make rather than making it.
Check by: Apr 2027.
Our take
We think Enshrouded at 1.0 is the best building game in the survival genre, because the whole world is voxels and every hill, cave and cliff can become part of a base (Building Guide). In our view it is worth its $39.99 for anyone who plays with friends; alone, it is a good action RPG with an unusually long middle.
We think the combat is underrated: since the Forging the Path update, parries, stun bars and Merciless Attacks make it closer to an action RPG than to most survival games (Combat). We think the story is overrated as a reason to play: it is told in notes and slides, and its ending raises more questions than it answers (Story and Lore).
We think the missing cross-play is the one thing holding 1.0 back, because a game built for 16-player co-op on PC splits its groups the moment a friend owns it on PlayStation 5.
Frequently asked questions
Is Enshrouded finished after 1.0?
We do not think so. Keen promised free and paid content "for years to come", and we expect a first paid expansion in a land beyond Embervale to be announced by October 2027.
Will Enshrouded be on Game Pass?
We think so, on the day it comes out on Xbox, which we expect in April 2027. Keen has not announced Game Pass.
Should I buy Enshrouded on PC or PS5?
We think PC, if your friends are there: it allows 16 players against 8 on PlayStation 5, and we do not expect cross-play before the second half of 2027.
Will there be an Enshrouded 2?
We think not before the paid expansions: Keen's plan is to grow this game, and we expect the "world beyond Embervale" to come as an expansion, not a sequel.

RoadmapAfter 1.0, Keen Games plans the Xbox Series X|S version for spring 2027 (no date), is working on cross-play with no estimate, and promises free updates and paid expansions "for years to come", including "a world beyond Embervale". No post-1.0 roadmap, DLC name, price or date had been announced as of Oct 28, 2026.

EnshroudedEnshrouded is Keen Games' solo and co-op survival action RPG set in Embervale, a voxel-built kingdom swallowed by a fog called the Shroud. It left Steam early access with its 1.0 release on Oct 15, 2026, launching on PlayStation 5 the same day, with Xbox Series X|S planned for spring 2027. -
Story and LoreIn Enshrouded you are a Flameborn, a human form joined with the powers of the Ancients, woken in the Cinder Vault to save Embervale, a kingdom that fell when its rulers mined the Elixir and their Elixir Wells released the Shroud. Version 1.0 (Oct 15, 2026) gave the story "an ending, though certainly not an end": you defeat Lord Vorgoth in the Ancients' sky capital, rescue the Mother Flame, and the outro says the Wanderer's shadows remain on faraway shores. -
Early Access UpdatesEnshrouded was in Steam early access from Jan 24, 2024 to Oct 15, 2026 and received eight major updates (Hollow Halls, Melodies of the Mire, Back to the Shroud, Souls of the Frozen Frontier, Pact of the Flame, Thralls of Twilight, Wake of the Water, Forging the Path), 14 patches and 42 hotfixes before 1.0. -
WeaponsEnshrouded's weapons are one-handed melee weapons used with shields, two-handed axes, hammers and greatswords, dual daggers, bows, staffs and wands, in rarities from common to legendary. The 1.0 tier lists put two-handers, the bow and the wand-and-shield battlemage on top; legendary weapons hit no harder at first but take more upgrades with runes and legendary runes, named lore weapons can be crafted again at every tier, and gear reaches level 55. -
World Settings and DifficultyEnshrouded has five difficulty presets (Default, Relaxed, Hard, Survival and Custom) and, under Custom, about 40 world settings, from enemy amount and Shroud time to day length, durability and what you drop on death. 1.0 added an "Automatic" enemy amount that scales to the nearby party, a setting for the Updraft charge time and one that lowers the Flame level at which altars push back the Shroud.
