Roadmap

After 1.0, Keen Games plans the Xbox Series X|S version for spring 2027 (no date), is working on cross-play with no estimate, and promises free updates and paid expansions "for years to come", including "a world beyond Embervale". No post-1.0 roadmap, DLC name, price or date had been announced as of Oct 28, 2026.

Enshrouded's roadmap after 1.0 has three announced parts: the Xbox Series X|S version in spring 2027, cross-play that Keen Games is "working on" without an estimate, and free updates plus paid expansions "for years to come". Creative Director Antony Christoulakis said it in Keen's Road to Release video of Jan 21, 2026: the roadmap items and community wishes that did not make 1.0 are not forgotten, "it's not the end but another beginning for us", development "will continue for years to come" with free additions "as well as paid expansions in the future", and "there is a world beyond Embervale". Keen has not published a dated roadmap since that video. As of Oct 28, 2026 there is no Xbox date, no cross-play date, and no announced name, price or date for any paid content. This page collects what Keen has said, with dates, and says plainly what is not announced; the patches since launch are on Patch Notes Since 1.0.

The story is finished "for now"

1.0 closed the current story, but Keen leaves the door open. The highlights video of Oct 15, 2026 says Cinder's Cradle is "where you will discover the secrets behind the Ancients and the Shroud" as "Embervale's story reaches its conclusion". The 1.0 changelog adds two words: "the story of Embervale is concluded - for now", and "Even after dealing with the most imminent threat, the Shroud still lingers and the Fell still aim to conquer more territories" (Keen, Oct 14, 2026). How the story ends is on Story and Lore and Ending Explained.

Xbox Series X|S: spring 2027

Consoles were part of the plan for 1.0. In the Road to Release video Christoulakis listed a review of the game's start, polishing and balancing, and "last but not least, there will be a console release". PS5 made it to launch on Oct 15, 2026 (PS5 Version); Xbox did not. On Jun 25, 2026 CEO Jan Jöckel said Keen "decided that achieving the level of quality and performance we expect on Xbox would require additional time", and that "Development of the Xbox version is progressing steadily, and we're planning to bring Enshrouded to Xbox players in spring 2027" (Keen press release).

Keen repeated "the Xbox Series X | S launch in Spring 2027" in its launch press release of Oct 14, 2026. Christoulakis told Wccftech on Oct 13, 2026: "We are sorry that Xbox players have to wait a bit longer", and "we'll bring it to Xbox next year and we'll make sure it will be a polished release". The reason he gave is size: "We are still a moderately sized team, so we decided to add more platforms step by step." As of Oct 28, 2026 there is no exact Xbox date, no Xbox store page, no Xbox price and no Game Pass announcement (Platforms and System Requirements).

Cross-play: no estimate

Cross-play between PC and PS5 does not exist, and Keen has given no date for it. Its Launch FAQ of Oct 13, 2026: "Enshrouded will not be cross-platform at launch ... We are working on bringing cross-platform play to Enshrouded, but have no current estimate on how much time it will take us" (Keen). Christoulakis told Wccftech the same day: "We still want to add cross-play and will work on that for future updates." Keen has said nothing about cross-progression (moving a character or world between PC and PS5), or about whether Xbox will join cross-play when it arrives. Until then, co-op stays within one platform: up to 16 players on PC and up to 8 on PS5 (Multiplayer and Co-op).

Free updates and paid expansions

Keen has committed to both kinds of content. The launch press release of Oct 14, 2026 promises to "support the game with both free & paid content for years to come", and Jöckel added that "there's still so much more we want to do with Enshrouded" (Keen). To Wccftech, Christoulakis said "1.0 is certainly not the end of development for us", "We plan to add free and paid content to the game to sustain our development efforts", and "When we offer paid DLC, we want to offer good value to our players."

What the first paid expansion will be is not known. The only hint is Christoulakis' "there is a world beyond Embervale" in January 2026, which Keen has not explained. The only paid add-on so far is the cosmetic Deluxe Upgrade Pack sold since Oct 15, 2026 (Price and Editions). No expansion name, price, region or date had been announced as of Oct 28, 2026, and claims of a dated DLC or a new continent on fan or server-host sites are guesses, not Keen's word.

Work Keen has said will continue

Performance is the most concrete ongoing promise. In Keen's 1.0 performance video, Technical Director Julien lists optimizations to the GPU, the CPU, the water simulation and the entity system, lower memory use and better network code, and says "as always, we will continue working on all performance topics even after 1.0".

Shader compilation is part of that. The same video explains that the game's visual effects grew into "thousands of different unique shaders", which Keen is combining into fewer to cut the first shader compilation; with only "a small VFX team", Keen's engine team says, "this will be an ongoing effort". The 1.0 changelog also leaves distant shadow flickering on performance settings to be "fixed in the future".

Sparkworks will grow. Keen's reveal video of Oct 8, 2026 promises: "We will keep adding functions in the future like a reset mechanic and more", and asks players what they want next (Adventure Sharing and Sparkworks).

More voice languages are planned. 1.0 voiced every lore note and the major survivors in English, German and Chinese, as the highlights video says, and the changelog adds: "Other languages are planned for a later date." Keen's dedicated server tool is Windows only, with "Linux support is planned for later" (Keen support; Dedicated Servers). Near-term, Keen's hotfix of Oct 16, 2026 promised more skill description fixes in the next patch and a fix that migrates corrupted characters (Keen).

Ideas, not promises

Some long-wished features have been discussed without a commitment. In Keen's developer Q&A recap from spring 2024, early in early access, the answer to a bigger level cap and skill tree was "absolutely the skill tree and level cap will expand with time"; both did grow, to level 50 at 1.0 (Skill Tree). Whether they grow again after 1.0 has not been said.

The same recap listed ideas Keen was "toying with" for "end of Early Access or later": world events, instanced dungeons, server gameplay settings, more biomes and a larger world, base sharing and user-generated content, and base invasions, which it called "very popular but ... challenging to design". Base sharing arrived as Adventure Sharing and server settings as world settings (World Settings and Difficulty). Base invasions are still open: Christoulakis told CGMagazine in September 2026 that "it's not off the table". He also said "We will do more platforms, for sure", without naming any.

What is not announced

As of Oct 28, 2026, Keen has not announced: an Xbox release date or price; a cross-play or cross-progression date; the name, content, price or date of any paid expansion; a 2027 roadmap; a Nintendo Switch 2, Mac or native Linux version; Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Plus catalog inclusion; or official mod support (in 2024 Keen called full mod support on its custom engine "a big undertaking"). A search of the press on Oct 28, 2026 found no interview since the 1.0 launch of Oct 15, 2026 in which Keen added to these plans; the newest statements are the Wccftech interview of Oct 13 and the press release of Oct 14. The years of early access that led here, and Keen's earlier roadmaps, are on Early Access Updates and 1.0 Release.
