Tips and Tricks

The most useful Enshrouded 1.0 tips: turn on automatic loot collection, salvage gear you will not use into runes, let the Workbench repair everything for free, carry a bow for out-of-reach buttons and a pickaxe to carve shortcuts, rescue the Farmer and Carpenter early, and parry to open Merciless Attacks. Thirty-plus sourced tips by topic, beyond the Beginner's Guide.

The best Enshrouded tips for 1.0 are small habits that save hours: switch on automatic loot collection, salvage gear you will not use into runes, let the Workbench repair everything, carry a bow and a pickaxe when exploring, rescue the Farmer and Carpenter early, and learn to parry. The first one is new in 1.0. Keen Games' 1.0 highlights video (Oct 15, 2026) introduces an auto loot setting: "hold the collect key and collect all the loose loot in the vicinity", though "it does not help you search the pockets of defeated enemies or the contents of chests". This page collects 35 tips by topic, each with its source and marked 1.0 or earlier. It assumes you know the basics on the Beginner's Guide (place an altar early, free the Blacksmith, follow the roads, climb the Ancient Spires) and does not repeat them.

Settings to change first

  • 1. Auto-collect scattered loot (1.0). Turn it on in the game settings so your character picks up loose wood, stone and ore as you walk; holding the interact key does the same on demand (1.0 changelog).
  • 2. Decide on "put items into backpack first". Off, newly crafted items land in your quick bars, which Arktix prefers; on, random loot stops cluttering them.
  • 3. Set lore auto-pause to "dangerous combat only". Arktix's 1.0 tips (Oct 23, 2026) recommend this mode so the voiced lore notes, new in 1.0, do not stop "just because a basic mob like a wolf or something is nearby" but still pause in real fights. The new [L] key plays and pauses the narration (1.0 changelog).
  • 4. Keep the master volume at 100%. Until Keen fixes it, reverb and the lowered game sound under lore narration misbehave below 100%; Keen says to turn the volume down in Windows instead (Hotfix 1.0.0.1).
  • 5. Check your key bindings (1.0). The update reset custom bindings to the defaults, and dropping a torch moved to [R] (1.0 changelog).
  • 6. Use the comfort settings (1.0). A new accessibility option reduces camera inertia, which "may help with motion sickness", every HUD element can be hidden, and the low-health vignette can be toned down (same changelog).

Gear and loot

  • 7. Find a staff early. Arktix shows two chests with "a high chance to spawn a staff" or its spells in 1.0: one in the cellar of a small Shroud-covered ruin just up the road from where the game asks you to build your first base (break the wooden wall in the doorway), and one beside the drop at the top of the first Elixir Well. Fireball makes a strong early ranged option. See Magic and Spells.

  • 8. Grab the Hunter's Ring in the first cave. Once you find explosives further in, go back and blow open the rubble near the start: a chest behind it holds the Hunter's Ring, a stamina ring (Arktix; AllThingsHow lists it as Stamina 6 and Stamina Regeneration 4, Oct 17, 2026). Arktix also got the Sigil Ring of the Elder Guard, a health ring, from ordinary enemies at Braelyn Bridge on several fresh saves.

  • 9. Salvage what you will not wear. Arktix: "salvage those sub-par gear items to get runes because runes are what you need to upgrade the gear that you do keep". Compare items with the button at the bottom of the backpack screen, and read the grayed-out upgrade section: a slightly worse item may beat yours once upgraded.

  • 10. Do not worry about durability. Using the Workbench repairs your equipped gear and recharges your torch for free (Arktix), and since 1.0 the anvils in enemy camps repair shields and wards too (1.0 changelog).

  • 11. Open the wooden chests. In 1.0 they can hold a weapon or armor piece "on the level of a silver chest", every chest has a 5% better chance of a legendary, and common loot was removed from silver chests (same changelog).

  • 12. Carry a wand as a free ranged weapon. Wands "don't cost any mana" and need no spell items, so they suit basic enemies until you get a staff (Arktix). Since 1.0 wands have a heavy attack from the start and a free-aim mode in the combat settings (1.0 changelog).

  • 13. Craft eternal spells and arrows in the late game (1.0). Every spell now has an eternal version that never runs out, and the class survivors upgrade eternal spells and arrows like weapons (1.0 changelog). Builds: Best Builds.

Combat

  • 14. Parry on the flash. Parrying builds stun fastest and opens Merciless Attacks. Arktix's advice: "hit block as soon as you see their weapon or eyes flash", without holding block beforehand. Since 1.0 your stamina also recovers while you block, and blocking follows the camera direction (1.0 changelog).

  • 15. Use heavy attacks on groups (1.0). A charged heavy melee attack now hits several close enemies instead of only the first (same changelog). More on Combat.

  • 16. Read "Effective" and "Resisted" (1.0). They now appear only when an enemy is at least 20% weak or resistant to your damage type, so they are worth acting on (same changelog).

  • 17. Retry a boss quickly (1.0). Enemies recover health slowly after you die instead of instantly, so "when re-engaging the boss in a timely fashion, some of its health will still not have fully recovered" (same changelog). See Bosses.

  • 18. Take ranged weapons into the Shroud. Keen's own tip: "some enemies down there fly and are hard to hit with melee" (Keen support).

  • 19. Respawn while falling (1.0). In a free fall with no stamina left, the game offers a Respawn before you land, shown by a plummeting animation (1.0 changelog).

Exploring and the Shroud

  • 20. Carry a bow, even as a mage. Arktix carries "a basic bow and a small stack of arrows" not for damage but for "triggering certain buttons inside spires and other locations", some of which are out of reach and ignore wands and staffs.

  • 21. Bring a pickaxe. It gathers what you pass, such as Active Mycelium from "basically anything that glows in the shroud", and because it reshapes terrain you can carve a ledge or shortcut up a cliff, though "there's going to be some road relatively close by" (Arktix).

  • 22. Plan your way out of the Shroud. Keen: "Remember the way you got into the Shroud in case you need to get out of it quickly", and remember towers and caves above the fog to "catch some fresh air" (Keen support).

  • 23. Collect hourglass capsules (1.0). They appear in many more places, add "about 70% more time" than before, and now drop from large Fell foes, while stacked time extensions were weakened (1.0 changelog). See The Shroud.

  • 24. Jump from spires. Fast travel to an Ancient Spire, then glide to your target; Arktix uses it to reach Cinder's Cradle quickly. Gliding and the hook are on Glider, Grappling Hook and Fast Travel.

  • 25. Skip the night in bed. Sleeping runs time at 60 times speed until morning (Arktix), and since 1.0 you can fast travel while lying in a bed (1.0 changelog).

  • 26. The map does not pause the game. Enemies can hit you with the map or menus open; only the Escape or Menu button pauses, and only in single player (Arktix).

Base and survivors

  • 27. Rescue the Farmer and Carpenter right after the Blacksmith. Arktix prioritizes them over the Huntress and Alchemist: the Farmer because "you're going to need tons of plant fiber and string" and her seedbed and farmland let you grow it, the Carpenter for the well, the table saw and more. See Survivors.

  • 28. Give every survivor a bed under a roof. Assign it with the Summoning Staff; with a sheltered bed they offer more quests (Arktix). Keen ties their happiness to it too.

  • 29. Max the rested buff before leaving. Warmth under a roof starts it ("just whack a torch above your workbench"), and comfort from furniture and decoration sets how long it lasts (Arktix). AllThingsHow adds that items of the same comfort group do not stack, so place one from each group: seating, light, carpets, wall decoration.

  • 30. Eat from three food groups. Meat, vegetables, fruit and water each count as a category; Arktix carries a meat, a vegetable and a water skin. The 1.0 Puke Potion, a personal recipe, clears your food buffs when you want to swap (1.0 changelog). See Food and Cooking.

  • 31. Rename chests and markers (1.0). Chests and custom map markers can be named, chests upgraded in place without emptying them; your markers stay private to you (1.0 changelog).

  • 32. Use temporary altars, then switch them off. An altar costs only 5 stone, so set one wherever you need a trip home and deactivate it when done, since early Flame levels allow few (Arktix). Base spots: Best Base Locations.

Skills, multiplayer and saves

  • 33. Early skills for exploring. Arktix takes Double Jump, Updraft and Airborne for longer, cheaper glides, three points in Well-Rested, Merciless Attack, and the Endurance and Runner nodes for stamina. A respec at the altar costs one rune per point (Skill Tree).

  • 34. Keep spare gear for friends. Keen's early access Beginner Tips (Feb 7, 2024) say "hang on to your gear": a friend who joins later can use it "to get a leg up". Your character keeps its gear on any server, while survivors stay with the world (Multiplayer and Co-op).

  • 35. Start a fresh world for 1.0. Old saves convert, but Keen "strongly" encourages starting over because the first hours changed, and the skill tree resets once in an old save (Launch FAQ). Difficulty choices are on World Settings and Difficulty; fixes on Server Troubleshooting.
