Hydrak'Dal

Hydrak'Dal is the Drak leader boss of Enshrouded's Veilwater Basin, fought beside the Drak'Dal Temples (two of them, northwest and southeast of the region's Ancient Spire) and targeted by the Fisher's quest "Vengeance". Its head is needed for the Veilwater Basin Flame upgrade in 1.0, and the region suits levels 35 to 45.

Hydrak'Dal is the leader of the Drak, the lizard-like faction of Veilwater Basin, and the boss you hunt for its head in Enshrouded's water region. AllThingsHow's 1.0 guide finds two of them, each beside a Drak'Dal Temple: one about 840 m northwest of the Veilwater Basin Ancient Spire and one about 660 m southeast of it (AllThingsHow, Oct 24, 2026). The Fisher's quest "Vengeance" asks for its head, and that head goes into the Veilwater Basin Flame upgrade, which AllThingsHow's boss list puts at Flame level 8 to 9 (AllThingsHow, Oct 16, 2026). Keen's own patch notes call the Hydrak'Dal "chonky boys" (Keen, Nov 25, 2025). HeRo Survival Guides' video (Nov 11, 2025) shows the way in: a "massive building" by the water, a swim underwater into it, and a switch that opens the door, with "creature inside". The other bosses are on Bosses.

Where to find Hydrak'Dal

The western Hydrak'Dal stands about 70 m west of its Drak'Dal Temple, and the Underwater Grappling Hook lies at its spot; the second is at a temple southeast of the spire (AllThingsHow, Oct 24, 2026). AllThingsHow's 1.0 boss list puts both near Orville (AllThingsHow, Oct 16, 2026). Veilwater Basin lies between the Albaneve Summits and the Blackmire, and its northern gates have led to Cinder's Cradle since 1.0 (Map and Regions).

The Drak themselves came with Wake of the Water on Nov 10, 2025. Keen's video for it introduces them as "a reptilian species who fought humanity for control of the region for ages" and resurfaced when the Shroud took Embervale, and adds that "unlike you, they can actually fight underwater". Keen's press release calls them "as deadly in the water as they are on land" (Keen Games, Nov 10, 2025).

The quest: "Vengeance"

"Vengeance" is one of the Fisher's quests in Veilwater Basin. MetaForge's captioned guide, which has no narration, (Nov 15, 2025, before 1.0) shows the steps on screen: kill any Drak to get the keepsake, Drak Scales, then "The Fisher wants you to go kill 25 Drak to bring out their leader. He has marked a location for our convenience." The captions add that the 25 Drak "can be killed anywhere in the Veilwater Basin", and MetaForge starts at Goldrock Saddle, "a really good location" for them. AllThingsHow's 1.0 account matches, quoting the journal: "You can find the Drak leaders in multiple places, but a convenient spot is marked on the map", the reward is the Hydrak'Dal Head and 400 XP (AllThingsHow, Oct 24, 2026). It follows the quest "Emerald Shores And Sanguine Seas": Keen fixed that quest in November 2025 so it completes even if you had already beaten Hydrak'Dal (Keen, Nov 25, 2025), and at 1.0 fixed "Vengeance", which "sometimes did not get resolved correctly when defeating another Drak'dal leader instead of the intended target" (Keen, Oct 14, 2026). So kill the leader the quest marks.

Attacks

No press outlet has published a full guide to the fight, as of Oct 28, 2026, so this rests on two creator videos made before 1.0. HeRo Survival Guides advises eating your buffs and food at the door, then: "keep moving around this creature. Don't stay in one position because it can actually shake the ground under you and it do a lot of damage. Just keep going around it in circle." Damage over time helped in that kill.

MetaForge's captioned run shows the arena: through the door "into the leaders chamber", a dark temple hall lit green, where Hydrak'Dal fights with lesser Drak at its side; the caption advises to "Kill the last small croc and then focus on the leader."

Midway through, a glowing golden ring spreads across the floor around the player, most likely the ground attack HeRo describes, with the caption "Make sure you have lots of health pots or bandages to keep topping up your health." The kill ends with "Finally hes dead and the quest is complete! Loot him as he drops his head which is needed for the Flame upgrade." Both videos are from Wake of the Water, before Keen raised its health slightly on Nov 25, 2025 and before 1.0's damage-type rework, so expect a longer fight.

How to beat Hydrak'Dal solo

  1. Prepare for water. The way in is underwater, so bring the skills or gear that let you swim longer (Veilwater Basin), and set a Flame Altar nearby so a death costs a short trip.
  2. Eat at the door. Food and buffs first, with healing potions and bandages on your bar (HeRo Survival Guides, MetaForge).
  3. Kill the small Drak first. Clear the lesser Drak in the chamber, then turn to the leader (MetaForge).
  4. Circle it. Keep moving around it in one direction; standing still invites the ground attack, and the golden ring on the floor is your cue to get out.
  5. Stack damage over time. Poison, fire or bleed keeps working while you circle (HeRo Survival Guides).
  6. Try daggers, which Keen made work better against it in November 2025.
  7. Watch the words. Since 1.0 "Effective" appears over an enemy only when it is at least 20% susceptible to your damage, and "Resisted" only at 20% resistance (Keen, Oct 14, 2026): switch weapons if you see "Resisted".
  8. Come back fast after a wipe, while it is still wounded.

How to beat it in co-op

In a group, have one player hold Hydrak'Dal while the others clear the lesser Drak and hit it from behind, and keep spread out so one ground attack does not catch everyone. Enemy health scales with the size of the party in multiplayer, as a 1.0 fix for the Fell Fungal Friends shows, and the 1.0 "Automatic" server setting scales the number of enemies in each encounter to the players nearby (Keen, Oct 14, 2026), so a group meets a bigger escort. See Multiplayer and Co-op.

Keen publishes no boss levels for 1.0. Destructoid rates Veilwater Basin for levels 35 to 45 and Cinder's Cradle, the region after it, for 45 to 50 (Destructoid, Oct 17, 2026). Its temples are reached underwater, and Keen's Wake of the Water video mentions new skills to swim longer and dodge underwater (Combat). Builds: Warrior Build, Tank Build, Mage Build, Ranger Build.

Rewards

The Hydrak'Dal Head is the prize. "The Hydrak'Dal Head you've gathered can be used to upgrade the Flame", AllThingsHow quotes from the Veilwater Basin Flame upgrade quest (AllThingsHow, Oct 24, 2026), and its boss list says the head "upgrades the Flame from Level 8 to 9 and lets you go deeper into the Veilwater Basin" (AllThingsHow, Oct 16, 2026); see Flame Altar and Flame Levels. It is also a trophy, and since 1.0 every heavy-class enemy has a head trophy (Keen, Oct 14, 2026). Keen "Improved the loot from defeated Hydrak'Dal" on Nov 13, 2025 and widened its loot range on Nov 25 (Keen, Nov 13, 2025).

What 1.0 changed

Hydrak'Dal was tuned in the weeks after Wake of the Water rather than at 1.0. On Nov 25, 2025 Keen increased "the collision shape and the loot interaction ranges" ("They are chonky boys after all"), "Slightly increased the health points for Hydrak'Dal" and made it "better fought with daggers"; the same patch stopped Drak enemies from interrupting their attacks when hit by minor damage (Keen, Nov 25, 2025). The 1.0 changelog (Oct 14, 2026) fixed "Vengeance", made Veilwater Snapjaws wildlife instead of Drak, reworked damage types for many heavy enemies, and made bosses regain health slowly after a wipe instead of resetting (Keen, Oct 14, 2026).

The 1.0 rule that helps most in a long fight like this one is in Keen's 1.0 Update Highlights: "Enemies no longer regain all their health instantly when you die. So coming back for another attempt at the boss doesn't mean starting from scratch."

How many players have beaten it

Hydrak'Dal has no Steam achievement. For scale, 8.6% of Steam owners had beaten the Fell Dragon Youngling of the Albaneve Summits, the region before Veilwater Basin, on Oct 26, 2026 (Steam Community).
