Scavenger Matron
The Scavenger Matron is the poison-throwing boss on top of Enshrouded's larger Scavenger camps; the first and easiest is on the Hill of Scavengers in the Springlands, just south of the Mistbury Catacombs. Her helmet (her head in early access) takes the Flame from level 2 to 3 in 1.0, and 1.0 toned down her poison area attack.
The Scavenger Matron is the boss at the top of the bigger Scavenger camps in Enshrouded, and the one most players meet first is on the Hill of Scavengers in the Springlands, "just south of Mistbury Catacombs" and a short way northeast of the Springlands Ancient Spire (PCGamesN, Jan 25, 2024). She is slow, has a lot of health and fights with poison. In 1.0 (Oct 15, 2026) the Alchemist's quest "The Alchemist's Rumors" leads you to her, and her drop, the Scavenger Matron Helmet, is "the trophy that takes the Flame from Level 2 to 3" (AllThingsHow, Oct 16, 2026); TheRevPlays' 1.0 playthrough (Oct 25, 2026) meets that wall in the journal: "we need the scavengers matron helm". Keen toned her down again at 1.0, her poison area attack most of all (Keen, Oct 14, 2026). The other bosses are on Bosses.

Where to find the Scavenger Matron
The Hill of Scavengers is the first and easiest. ESO's early access guide (Feb 3, 2024) flies there from the Springlands Ancient Spire, north of the starting base past the broken bridge, where "you can literally see the boss fight location": glide northeast past the flame shrine to the hill, and build a Flame Altar nearby so you respawn close. PCGamesN adds that the Matron waits at the top of the fort, out of sight, and that you should clear the Scavengers and rabid wolves below first so they cannot join the fight (PCGamesN).
ESO skips the main gate: run round to the left to "a little mine shaft entrance", climb with a rope, break a wall with an axe and sneak up through the camp. Before going in it eats wolf meat for constitution, berries for regeneration, a Flask of the Fell for stamina and an elixir for damage.
She is not the only one. AllThingsHow names a Scavenger Gorger Matron at the Hill of Scavengers and at Glennwood's End, where the Revelwood quest "A Crucial Investigation" needs her dead, and a Scavenger Grizzler Matron at Fawnsong Frontier (AllThingsHow, Oct 16, 2026). Gamer Guides says more Matrons hold the big camps of the Nomad Highlands and Kindlewastes, "more powerful each time" but with mostly the same attacks (Gamer Guides, updated May 22, 2024), and Destructoid lists Matrons at Raven's Keep and Ocean's Heart (Destructoid, May 20, 2025).
In TheRevPlays' 1.0 run the Revelwood Matron he needs for the Flame waits in a church at the back of a Scavenger settlement. At level 15 he digs through the church wall, perches where she cannot reach "and shoot them to death", after taking out the archers inside.
Attacks
Gamer Guides describes three attacks (Gamer Guides):
- Acid Throw, her most frequent: two lots of green flasks that burst in an arc in front of her and leave poison on the ground. Running around her in one direction avoids it; running straight away is how you get hit.
- Acid Vomit, her most dangerous: at melee range, tracking you until the last moment. Her warning is a gurgle unlike her other sounds, a pause and her head tilting back; Game Rant says it "spreads at a wider distance" than it looks (Game Rant, Feb 25, 2024). Run far and to the side.
- Wolf summon: stronger Matrons blow a horn that calls wolves in threes and fours. Pull them away and kill them first.
ESO's fight shows why circling works: "if you keep running around really close to her, she actually can't hit you with anything", while from range "you will need to dodge roll" her flasks. Melee damage is "super effective"; archers must aim low, "you want to shoot her in the belly", since her head is "the only protected area".
Game Rant found in early access that she resists explosives and acid and takes cutting, fire, lightning and piercing damage well (Game Rant). 1.0 reworked damage types for many heavy enemies and now shows "Effective" over an enemy only when it is at least 20% susceptible to your damage, and "Resisted" only at 20% resistance (Keen, Oct 14, 2026), so check those words in the fight.
What 1.0 changed
Her poison is the most patched thing about her. Keen's first big patch reduced "the poison attack from the Scavenger Matron that caused too much damage" (Keen, Feb 6, 2024); Melodies of the Mire reworked it "to limit the risk of killing players in melee range with one hit" (Keen, Jun 5, 2024); and Wake of the Water made her flasks curable "with antidote potions as intended" (Keen, Nov 10, 2025). The 1.0 changelog "Reduced the damage of some of the Scavenger Matron attacks to bring it more in line with other nearby enemies. In particular, the poison area attack has been toned down", cut the Scavenger night patrols to about 60% of their damage and made hooking toward an enemy cost less stamina (Keen, Oct 14, 2026). Guides from 2024 describe the stronger early access Matron.
The 1.0 rule that helps in every boss fight, from Keen's 1.0 Update Highlights: "Enemies no longer regain all their health instantly when you die. So coming back for another attempt at the boss doesn't mean starting from scratch."
How to beat the Scavenger Matron solo
- Eat and pack. Food for health and stamina (Food and Cooking), healing potions and antidotes, which cure her flask poison.
- Clear the camp, archers above all, then climb to her by a grapple point or the broken fence.
- Circle her in one direction so the Acid Throw misses; running costs no stamina, rolling does.
- Hit in short bursts, then back off to recover stamina, as PCGamesN advises. At the gurgle, run far and to the side.
- Shoot the belly with a bow; fire and lightning spells hit her well.
- Use the barrels. Lure her over the explosive barrels in her arena and shoot one: the blast opens a hole that can trap her (Game Rant).
- Kill the wolves first when a stronger Matron blows her horn.
ESO shows the barrel trap in early access: with explosives thrown in front of her she drops into the hole, "she can't get out of there", and it shoots her from the edge. Its warning for the end: "be careful when she dies cuz she does explode". Treat the trap as a bonus, not a plan, in 1.0.
How to beat her in co-op
One player keeps her turning while the others hit her back or shoot her belly, and whoever she starts to vomit at runs while the rest keep hitting. Assign one player to the wolves when the horn sounds. 1.0 added an "Automatic" server setting that scales the number of enemies in each encounter to the size of the party nearby (Keen, Oct 14, 2026), so a group draws a bigger camp. Group play raises the chance of bonus boss loot (Keen, Feb 9, 2024). See Multiplayer and Co-op.
Recommended level, gear and builds
Keen publishes no boss levels for 1.0. Destructoid's 1.0 guide rates the Springlands for levels 1 to 10 and Revelwood for 11 to 15 (Destructoid, Oct 17, 2026); ESO beat the Hill of Scavengers Matron with a level 4 character in early access, and PCGamesN says she falls "at a relatively low level" with care. Any build works: a Warrior Build or Tank Build circles and hits, a Ranger Build shoots her belly from a ledge, a Mage Build brings fire and lightning. Tactics in general are on Combat.
Rewards
In ESO's early access kill her body gave "the scavengers matron's head", a level 7 epic bronze sword and a hunter's bow. In 1.0 AllThingsHow names the drop the Scavenger Matron Helmet, the trophy for Flame level 3, and says the kill gives the knowledge for the Improved Grappling Hook (AllThingsHow; Flame Altar and Flame Levels, Glider, Grappling Hook and Fast Travel).
Scavengers have a weapon of their own in the drop pools since late 2025: in Keen's Dev Update (Oct 23, 2025), senior game designer Christoph names "the scavenger's fearsome acid cleaver" among the weapons added, with drops scaling in level and rarity.
How many players have beaten her
The Scavenger Matron has no Steam achievement, so Steam does not count her kills. She falls between two bosses that do: 73.2% of Steam owners have beaten the Fell Thunderbrute before her and 37.5% the Fell Wispwyvern, the next main boss after her (Steam Community, read Oct 28, 2026).
Frequently asked questions
Where is the Scavenger Matron in Enshrouded? The first Scavenger Matron in Enshrouded is on top of the Hill of Scavengers in the Springlands, just south of the Mistbury Catacombs and northeast of the Springlands Ancient Spire. Others lead big Scavenger camps such as Glennwood's End and Fawnsong Frontier in Revelwood.
How do you beat the Scavenger Matron in Enshrouded? Clear her camp, then circle her closely in one direction so her acid flasks miss, hit in short bursts and run far to the side when she gurgles before her acid vomit. Archers should shoot her belly, since her head is armored.
What is the Scavenger Matron weak to? Game Rant found in early access that the Scavenger Matron takes cutting, fire, lightning and piercing damage well and resists explosives and acid. Enshrouded 1.0 shows "Effective" or "Resisted" over her as you hit.
What does the Scavenger Matron drop in Enshrouded? The Scavenger Matron drops the Scavenger Matron Helmet (her head in early access), which raises the Flame from level 2 to 3 in Enshrouded 1.0, plus gear; the kill also teaches the Improved Grappling Hook.
Did Enshrouded 1.0 nerf the Scavenger Matron? Yes. Enshrouded 1.0 reduced the damage of some Scavenger Matron attacks, the poison area attack most of all, after earlier patches had softened her poison and made antidotes cure it.
What level should I be to fight the Scavenger Matron? Keen gives no level for the Scavenger Matron. The Hill of Scavengers is in the Springlands, which Destructoid rates for levels 1 to 10 in Enshrouded 1.0; later Matrons in Revelwood and beyond are stronger.
