Tank Build

A tank build in Enshrouded 1.0 holds a one-handed weapon and a shield, raises Constitution for health, and takes the Guardian skills Heavy Plates, Tower, Warden, Thick Skin and Earth Aura with Nemesis and Arch Nemesis to draw enemies off allies. There is no taunt button: threat comes from those skills, damage and parries, and 1.0 made stamina recover while you block.

A tank build in Enshrouded 1.0 is a shield fighter: a one-handed weapon in one hand, a shield in the other, Constitution for a large health pool, and the Guardian area of the skill tree for armor and for drawing enemies away from your friends. Keen Games designs for the role: since Update 8 warrior sets have "the highest physical armor across all classes", armor can cut damage by up to 80% (Keen, Apr 21, 2026), and since 1.0 your stamina recovers while you block (Keen, Oct 14, 2026). 04AM's 1.0 "juggernaut" tank (Oct 20, 2026) builds exactly that by "combining warrior and guardian", taking every Constitution and Strength node on the way. The 1.0 guides agree the role shines in co-op and is slow alone. Damage-first melee is on Warrior Build, every route on Best Builds.

Quick facts

Weapons One-handed sword, club or axe with a shield; a two-handed tank is possible
Attributes Constitution first, then Strength or Endurance (Power Up Gaming, Oct 17, 2026)
Aggro skills Nemesis and Arch Nemesis (Guardian area); no taunt ability
Defense skills Heavy Plates, Tower, Warden, Thick Skin, Earth Aura, Power Parry
Armor cap 80% damage mitigation since Update 8 (was 60%)
Blocking in 1.0 Stamina recovers while blocking; the block follows the camera (Keen, Oct 14, 2026)
Best for Co-op groups of two to four (Power Up Gaming)

Blocking and parrying in 1.0

Two 1.0 changes made the shield better. "The player character's stamina now also recovers while blocking", and the block now takes the camera's direction rather than the way your character faces, "to make blocking feel more responsive" (Keen, Oct 14, 2026). Guides written before 1.0 warn that blocking stops stamina regeneration (Hack The Minotaur's Update 8 shield ranking, Aug 6, 2026): that no longer holds.

A parry, a block timed just as a hit lands, is the tank's best tool, and some projectiles go straight back at the attacker. In Keen's video of Aug 19, 2026 on the 1.0 fixes, the narrator reminds players that "melee builds can reflect the rock projectiles to stun the dragon" and says many players were not trying. Parries fill the enemy's stun bar, several enemies can be parried at once, and a stunned enemy takes a Merciless Attack; the full rules are on Combat, and the dragon fight on Fell Dragon Youngling. The Kick skill turns an attack out of a block into a kick that drains stamina and interrupts spellcasting (Keen, Nov 10, 2025).

Holding aggro in co-op

There is no taunt button in Enshrouded; Hack The Minotaur's 1.0 tank guide says threat comes from damage, healing and being close, with parries adding more (Hack The Minotaur, Oct 26, 2026). What a tank has instead are skills that raise the attention enemies pay you. Keen named one in Update 8: "In multiplayer, skills that increase enemy attention, such as Nemesis, now work much more reliably", and aggro in the Hollow Halls now responds to "aggro-increasing skills" like everywhere else (Keen, Apr 21, 2026). The skill has a stronger partner: Patch 12 corrected the descriptions of Nemesis and Arch Nemesis, which had been "switched" (Keen, Dec 16, 2025).

Not every 1.0 tank takes them. 04AM's solo-minded juggernaut takes Thick Skin and one rank of Earth Aura (enough at 4 meters solo, while further ranks widen it for a group) and calls Martyr and Nemesis "interesting" for playing with friends but not essential. GameWith and Hack The Minotaur's skill tree page both give Nemesis +10% attention per level, three levels of 2 points each (GameWith, Oct 27, 2026); Hack The Minotaur's tank build adds that Nemesis and Arch Nemesis together can double your threat. No guide checked here gives Arch Nemesis's exact effect, so read the tooltip in game.

The guides' advice for keeping enemies on you: open with Evasion Attack to close the gap, keep hitting groups with Crash Down attacks from a double jump, parry often, and hold the block when you cannot time a parry (Hack The Minotaur). Power Up Gaming's co-op tank exists to "hold aggro, absorb damage, and create safe windows" for the damage dealers, and it suggests a tank and a healer for two players, adding a damage dealer for three, and melee and ranged damage for four (Power Up Gaming, Oct 17, 2026). How co-op works is on Multiplayer and Co-op; a healer partner is on Healer Build.

Skills

The 1.0 tank guides take the same Guardian core. 04AM calls Warden and Tower "the most important ones" of its Guardian picks: each raises your magical or physical resistance when three or more enemies are around you. The core skills:

  • Heavy Plates (3 ranks): +4% physical armor from equipped items per rank (Allthings. How, Oct 24, 2026).
  • Tower and Warden (3 points each): GameWith says each adds 10% when three or more enemies are within 20 meters, and Hack The Minotaur's tank skill tree makes Tower the physical and Warden the magical resistance bonus, so both reward standing in a crowd.
  • Thick Skin (5 points): one Constitution point for every two Flame levels, and Shiny Plates (3 ranks): +4% magical armor from equipped armor per rank, by the same skill tree page.
  • Earth Aura: +10% physical and magical resistance for you and allies within 4 meters (Allthings. How, GameWith); further ranks widen the radius, to 12 meters in 04AM's build.
  • Martyr: when you die, allies within 30 meters heal for 50% of their maximum health and gain 100 maximum health for 15 minutes; a group skill only.
  • Nemesis and Arch Nemesis for threat, and Power Parry, Vigorous Deflection (stamina back on each parry) and Battle Heal (health from melee critical hits) for staying up.

KeenGamer's 1.0 "Best Co-op Defense" build is Nemesis, Arch Nemesis, Thick Skin, Heavy Plates, Tower and Warden with the Mace of Wrath, a Crestflame Shield, Crestflame armor and a Commander's Ring (KeenGamer, Oct 17, 2026). GameWith's Guardian Tank takes Nemesis, Earth Aura, Tower, Warden, Heavy Plates and Martyr, 27 points of core. Respeccing costs 1 rune per point, so a duo can swap roles cheaply (Skill Tree).

Constitution and health

Constitution raises maximum health, so it is the tank's main attribute. Power Up Gaming's co-op tank puts Constitution first and Strength second (Oct 17, 2026); Hack The Minotaur's puts Constitution and Intelligence (for a healing staff) first, then Endurance (Oct 26, 2026). Update 8 added "several new skills" that raise maximum health (Keen, Apr 21, 2026); since Update 7 cut passive regeneration, healing comes from food, potions, Battle Heal and leech perks.

Shields

Block value matters most for a shield wall, parry power for a parry build. 04AM opens one legendary chest to find three top-level shields, the Emberguard Shield with 35 block, the Astrodome Shield with 39 and the Crestflame Shield with 44, and picks the Crestflame "to become a true shield wall" when you simply hold the block. The 1.0 guides name these shields:

Shield Numbers given Source
Wooden Shield Item level 3, craftable once you have a Flame Altar Allthings. How, Oct 24, 2026
Valiant Shield, Hero's Shield Item level 10, Blacksmith from Flame 3; Power Parry perks Allthings. How
Crestflame Shield 44 block, 299 parry power Hack The Minotaur, Oct 26, 2026; KeenGamer
Golden Bulwark Shield 42 block, 268 parry power: "highest block" in Update 8 Hack The Minotaur, Aug 6, 2026
Sunpiercer Shield 34 block, 321 parry power, for parry builds Hack The Minotaur, Aug 6, 2026

Shields are upgraded with runes at the Blacksmith since Update 8 (Keen, Apr 21, 2026), so a shield with more upgrade levels can outgrow one with better starting numbers. One-handed weapon picks are on Weapon Tier List, Weapons and Legendary Weapons; mages block with wards instead (Mage Build), and the archers a tank protects are on Ranger Build.

Armor

Pick the tank sets, not the damage sets. In Keen's gear video, designer Christoph says Update 8 "differentiated armor archetypes": the "Warrior Tank armor is tankier than the Warrior Fighter", and mage and battlemage sets differ the same way. Upgrades at the Blacksmith raise both kinds of armor and unlock perks, some adding skill levels.

Within a set, pick the pieces whose perks fit a tank. 04AM mixes the Cinder's Cradle sets, Emberguard and Crestflame, and checks each piece: a helmet with melee critical chance, a chest with health and health regeneration rather than stamina, gloves with melee damage and extra block rather than two-handed damage. The sets the 1.0 guides name for a tank, early to late: the Tank set from the Blacksmith from Flame 3 (its chestplate can carry Heavy Plates +2, the gloves Block +2, per Allthings. How); Guardian pieces from Flame 4; Golden Bulwark from Flame 8 (Hack The Minotaur's best tank armor in its Oct 15, 2026 list); and the Crestflame set of Cinder's Cradle, whose chest gives +420 health (Hack The Minotaur, Oct 26, 2026; KeenGamer). All sets by tier are on Armor Sets.

Food

Tanks eat for health and stamina, since every block, parry and dodge spends stamina. Hack The Minotaur's 1.0 tank runs Grandleaf Cabbage Rolls (+320 health), Aurora Bean Rice, Popcorn and Black Coffee (+30 stamina, +30 stamina regeneration) at once through the Dessert Stomach skill (Oct 26, 2026); recipes are on Food and Cooking.

Two-handed and solo tanks

A tank does not need a shield, but it loses the block. His & Hers Gaming bills its two-handed greatsword and hammer build (Oct 22, 2026) as "the ultimate 1.0 tank build that cannot die": it trades the shield for health from Strength through Athlete, critical-hit healing and summoned skeletons. Allthings. How's 1.0 warrior build is a greatsword "tank" that parries with the weapon, heals from critical hits through Battle Heal, and ends with Tower, Warden, Thick Skin and Earth Aura (Allthings. How, Oct 21, 2026).

Alone, the tank is slow. GameWith rates its Guardian Tank BB, "weak solo" but strong in co-op, against AA for a one-handed parry build that trades the aggro skills for Merciless Attack damage (GameWith, Oct 27, 2026); Hack The Minotaur ranks the tank eighth of nine builds for the same reason (Oct 15, 2026). For solo play, take the shield skills but spend the aggro points on damage, as the one-handed build on Warrior Build does.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best tank build in Enshrouded 1.0? Enshrouded 1.0 guides build the tank on a one-handed weapon and shield with Constitution and the Guardian skills Heavy Plates, Tower, Warden and Thick Skin, plus Nemesis and Arch Nemesis for threat; KeenGamer's Oct 17, 2026 version uses the Mace of Wrath, a Crestflame Shield and Crestflame armor.

How do you taunt in Enshrouded? Enshrouded has no taunt button. A tank draws enemies with the Nemesis and Arch Nemesis skills, which raise the attention enemies pay you, and by dealing damage, parrying and staying close; Keen made Nemesis more reliable in multiplayer in Update 8.

Is blocking good in Enshrouded 1.0? Yes. Since Enshrouded 1.0 your stamina recovers while you block and the block follows the camera direction, and a well-timed block parries, filling the enemy's stun bar.

What is the best shield in Enshrouded? Enshrouded's 1.0 guides recommend the Crestflame Shield (44 block, 299 parry power, per Hack The Minotaur) late in the game; before that, the Golden Bulwark has the most block and the Sunpiercer the most parry power in Hack The Minotaur's Update 8 ranking.

What stats does a tank need in Enshrouded? An Enshrouded tank puts Constitution first for health, then Strength or Endurance; the 1.0 guides also stack armor through Heavy Plates and armor upgrades, since armor can cut damage by up to 80%.

Is a tank good solo in Enshrouded? Not very. GameWith calls Enshrouded's Guardian tank "weak solo" (Oct 27, 2026) because it kills slowly; solo players do better with a one-handed parry build that spends the aggro points on damage.

Does armor matter in Enshrouded? Yes. Since Update 8, Enshrouded armor can reduce damage by up to 80%, warrior sets carry the most physical armor, and upgrading armor at the Blacksmith raises it further.
