Mage Build

The best Enshrouded mage build in 1.0 fights with a wand for steady, mana-free damage and a staff for big spells, linked by the 1.0 skill Blast and Cast, with Intelligence as the main attribute, Water Aura and Blink for survival, and the Alchemist's mage armor. The 1.0 guides of October 2026 agree on that core and differ on the rest.

The best mage build in Enshrouded 1.0 is a wand and staff caster: the wand does steady damage between casts, the staff fires the big spells, and the 1.0 skill Blast and Cast rewards switching from one to the other, with Intelligence as the attribute that scales nearly everything. Keen Games made mages the main combat project of 1.0 (Oct 15, 2026). Its 1.0 highlights video says "mages have nine new spell types to work with", with more crowd control and area damage, utility spells, elemental totems and skeletons, new skills that raise how many you can summon, and necromancy weapon gems; every spell also got an Eternal version that never runs out of charges. This page goes deeper than the mage section of Best Builds, with skill names as the 1.0 guides and creators quote them; where they disagree, it says so.

Rain falls in a narrow, mossy gorge. At left, seen from behind, a figure with white hair and ornate gold shoulder armor points a wooden staff whose tip bursts with green light. Ahead, a massive dark-furred beast with curled horns and a gaping mouth lunges forward with one clawed hand raised, and at right a skeletal four-legged creature wrapped in green crystal shards stands in the grass. How a 1.0 mage fights

The wand is the mage's main weapon in 1.0, and the staff is the finisher. In Chiselchip's mage guide of Oct 19, 2026, a creator who says he has played for "thousands of hours", mostly as a mage, walks through the Battlemage nodes he maxes early: Eternal Spark, which restores wand durability, Unity, which gives wand hits "a 10% chance to restore 2% of your maximum mana", and Wand Specialization, which unlocks the wand's special attack. Keen's 1.0 notes explain why wands carry the build: wands have a heavy attack from the start that pierces enemies and interrupts weaker ones, plus two skills to learn, Aerial Wand Attack (an area attack in mid-air) and Wand Evasion Attack (wider, piercing projectiles as you dodge) (Keen, Sep 23, 2026). How the two weapons work in detail is on Magic and Spells.

Blast and Cast is the skill that ties the two together. Chiselchip reads its tooltip (after a wand critical strike, the base damage of the next staff attack within 10 seconds rises by 50%) and tells viewers: "don't forget to alternate your wand and your staff", which he calls most useful in boss fights. KeenGamer calls it essential for a battlemage that switches between wands and staffs (KeenGamer, Oct 17, 2026), and Power Up Gaming's solo mage swaps to the staff inside the 50% window (Power Up Gaming, Oct 17, 2026). The basic loop is the same in every guide: wand until a critical hit lands, then the strongest staff spell you carry.

A mage blocks with a ward, which Keen calls "the mage shields", with built-in mana regeneration (Keen, Nov 10, 2025); since 1.0 camp anvils repair wards, and 1.0 renamed the wards "to increase naming consistency" (Keen, Oct 14, 2026), so ward names in 2025 guides may not match. Allthings. How's battlemage takes Arcane Deflection, which refunds mana on a parry (Allthings. How, Oct 21, 2026).

Attributes

Intelligence comes first. TheGamer's early access guide matched Intelligence to magic damage, Spirit to mana and Constitution to health (TheGamer, Jan 24, 2024), and the 1.0 guides keep that order: Allthings. How's fire mage reaches level 50 with 26 Intelligence, 20 Constitution and 19 Spirit, at +5% magic damage, +50 health and +20 mana per point, and notes that Intelligence also scales Water Aura's healing (Allthings. How, Oct 21, 2026). Attribute points come from attribute nodes in the Skill Tree, so a mage takes every cheap Intelligence and Spirit node on its way.

The skill path, step by step

Start with survival, not damage. Chiselchip's first recommendation, which he admits "might sound a little bit counterintuitive", is the two Constitution nodes at the bottom of the tree, one point each, for "a free 100 health", then Double Jump for two more points, then Mana Currents and Updraft. Allthings. How's early mage guide spends its first 13 points this way instead: Spirit, Mage Apprentice (+5% wand and staff damage per rank), Counterstrike, Mana Currents (+5 base mana regeneration per rank), Intelligence, Iceman (2 points, +10% ice damage), Arsonist (2 points, +10% fire damage), then Intelligence, Eternal Spark, Intelligence and Unity (Allthings. How, Oct 24, 2026). The first is safer, the second hits harder sooner.

Next, borrow the Healer area's sustain. Chiselchip calls Water Aura "your best friend as a mage because we're a little bit more squishy", maxes it, and takes Waters of Life, which raises Water Aura's healing to two health per two points of Intelligence. He adds Blink (the dodge becomes a short teleport), Emergency Blink and Blink Attack, then Life Essence, which raises maximum health by three times your Intelligence.

Then build damage in the Wizard area. Chiselchip leans on fire because "the shroud enemies ... are all weak to fire" and on ice because "all of the scavenger class is weak to ice", picks up every Intelligence and Spirit node close by, maxes Quick Charge (spell charge time 10% shorter per rank, 30% at three) and Radiant Aura, which burns Shroud enemies near you. Allthings. How's mid game adds Arsonist and Wizard (2 points per rank, +2% wand and staff critical chance), then Chain Hit and Mass Destruction, which spread shock damage on magic critical hits. 1.0 reworked enemy weaknesses across many enemies, so a mixed bag of fire, ice and shock is worth carrying (Keen, Oct 14, 2026).

Gear can push a skill past its cap. In Keen's Update 8 gear video (Apr 14, 2026), designer Christoph says items now carry perks such as "plus one to Mage Apprentice" and that these extra levels let you "exceed the standard skill level limit".

The late tree is where guides part ways. Chiselchip adds Guardian's Heavy Plates, Shiny Plates and Thick Skin for armor and health, Battlemage's Arcane Proliferation, Sting and Exalted (one Intelligence per two Flame levels), and Trickster's Blast and Cast and Arcane Concentration. One name differs between sources: Power Up Gaming writes "Mage Apprenticeship", while Keen's own video and the other guides say Mage Apprentice.

Spells

A mage can begin on day one. In Keen's Dev Update of Oct 23, 2025, players are said to have wanted "to start out as mages" without early support, so Update 7 added Fire Bolt, a quick single-target spell: "as soon as you find bones and resin, you can craft your first staff and your first spell". Allthings. How's 1.0 recipes: a wand from 2 Bones and a staff from 3 Bones and 1 String, both by hand; Fire Bolt I from 2 Resin and Mana Drain I from 5 Bones, with tiers II and III at Flame levels 2 and 3 (Allthings. How, Oct 24, 2026). The Alchemist adds Fireball, Ice Bolt, Chain Lightning, Entangle and more as you find their materials.

The late game runs on Eternal spells. Keen's highlights say every spell now has an Eternal version "so you won't need to keep crafting charges for your favorites", upgradable with perks such as reduced mana cost. Allthings. How's fire mage builds around Eternal Fireball (tier I at item level 15, II at 36 from the quest A Glimpse Of Eternity, III at 45) with Eternal Fire Totem, Pillar of Flames, Blizzard, Entangle and Heal Cascade on the hotbar; KeenGamer's elemental wizard carries Eternal Fireball III, Blizzard and Ball Lightning.

Summons are a 1.0 option, not a requirement. Chiselchip saves the necromancy nodes for later because "this stuff is really only powerful later game": one rank of Bone to Ash, Necromancer maxed (a 5% chance to summon a skull companion on a magic kill) and Advanced Necromancy at two of three, since he finds he lacks the mana for more skeletons. KeenGamer's summoner takes Advanced Necromancy, Totem Mastery, Necromancer, Mana Currents and Quick Charge with Summon Hollow Skeleton, Summon Fire Totem and Entangle.

Armor and weapons

Mage sets have more magical than physical armor, and the Alchemist upgrades them with runes (Keen, Apr 21, 2026); since 1.0 every Flame upgrade unlocks the next tier's craftable sets (Armor Sets). Allthings. How's order: Alchemist Apprentice (level 8), Mage (13), Magician (18), Archmage and Elder (25), Thaumaturge (33), then Vorgoth's Soulbound Crown and Pants with Flame Arcanist chest, gloves and boots and two Rings of the Mother Flame from a Cinder's Cradle chest. KeenGamer's battlemage wears the Hailcaster Chest, Flaming Gauntlets and Vorgoth's Soulbound Crown with the Polymath's Wand and Staff of Guidance. Keen gave the Battlemage set more armor than a wizard set, the "glass cannon" in Christoph's words. Weapons in general are on Weapons.

Food

Keen's own advice is to eat what suits your class (Keen support). Allthings. How's fire mage names Cabbage Mushroom Rice (+24% magic damage), Meat Wrap (health and magic damage), Thyme Tea (+16 mana regeneration for an hour) and an Ultimate Mana Potion saved for bosses. Since Update 7 cut passive regeneration, potions and food matter more for a fragile caster; see Food and Cooking.

Leveling from the first staff to level 50

  • Levels 1 to 15: hand-made wand, staff, Fire Bolt and Mana Drain; Double Jump, Blink, Water Aura, Waters of Life, Wand Specialization, Eternal Spark, Unity. Carry spare wands: Allthings. How warns they wear quickly early.
  • Levels 15 to 35: Quick Charge, Mana Currents, Mage Apprentice, Arsonist and Wizard; craft Eternal Fireball I at item level 15.
  • Levels 35 to 50: crit and defense (Chain Hit, Mass Destruction, Blast and Cast, Shroud Mitigation), Eternal Fireball II and III, Vorgoth's Soulbound and Flame Arcanist pieces.

The order follows Allthings. How's fire mage and Chiselchip's route; a respec at a Flame Altar costs 1 rune per spent point.

Solo or co-op

Solo, a mage needs its own healing and escape: Water Aura, Blink and a ward. Allthings. How finds late spells' long charge times risky alone until Quick Charge is built, and suggests bringing a bow and stun arrows to the Fell Dragon Youngling rather than spells alone. In a group, a mage can stay a pure damage dealer behind a Tank Build, let a Healer Build carry the healing, or take Life Burst and Chain Heal to support; Power Up Gaming's four-player group pairs a tank and a healer with melee and ranged damage.
