Fell Wispwyvern
The Fell Wispwyvern is the Shroud wyvern boss of Enshrouded, fought in the Imperial Gardens of The Pike, the castle behind Pikemead's Reach, on the Blacksmith's quest "Reach The Capital, Pikemead's Reach" (recommended level 16). Hitting the glowing orb in its mouth while it summons stuns it; 37.5% of Steam players have beaten it.
The Fell Wispwyvern is the winged Shroud beast that holds The Pike, the castle behind Pikemead's Reach, the fallen capital in the northeast of Embervale, and it is the boss of the Blacksmith's main quest "Reach The Capital, Pikemead's Reach", whose journal calls it "the Castle Beast" and recommends level 16 (AllThingsHow, Oct 24, 2026). Steam's achievement for it, "Dethroned", reads "Defeat the shroud wyvern", and Keen calls it "our old friend the Shroud Wyvern" (Keen, Nov 25, 2025); its head, the item that raises the Flame from level 3 to 4, carries the name Fell Wispwyvern. The key to the fight is unchanged since early access: when its mouth glows as it summons help, hit the orb inside to stun it. KaptainLee, replaying 1.0 from a new save, reached The Pike at level 13 and calls it "the first big boss" (Oct 24, 2026). The other bosses are on Bosses.

Where is the Fell Wispwyvern
The Pike is the castle behind Pikemead's Reach. AllThingsHow's 1.0 guide quotes the quest journal, "To reach Pikemead's Reach, Shroud Passage Level 3 is required", which comes from strengthening the Flame, and puts the boss about 235 m north of the town's Flame Sanctum, with a Return Beacon about 70 m southwest of the arena (AllThingsHow, Oct 24, 2026). Keen's posts do not name its region (Map and Regions).
Game Rant's route, written in early access, still describes the way in: glide northeast from the Revelwood Ancient Spire to Huckster Square, south of the Imperial Gardens, fight north past two joined Elixir Wells (worth destroying for their skill points), then grapple up the left side of the castle with the big central door, climb the stairs of a small room and come out in the open courtyard where the wyvern waits (Game Rant, Feb 26, 2024). Screen Rant advises a Flame Altar near the Reach (Screen Rant). Walking into the courtyard starts the fight.
Attacks and phases
The two press guides list the same moves under slightly different names (Screen Rant, Mar 3, 2024; Game Rant, Feb 26, 2024):
- Shroud Swarm: it rears up and fires projectiles that burst where they land. Small blue circles on the ground mark the spots; stand outside them.
- Shroud Breath: a wide frontal arc of blue Shroud flame that slows and damages. As it rises, step to one side and get behind it.
- Tail whip: a sweep around itself when you are close. Dodge as soon as the tail moves.
- Leap: a high jump toward you that hits hard (Game Rant).
- Minion summon: its mouth glows and it calls Shroud creatures to help. This is your opening.
In KaptainLee's 1.0 fight the arena throws "bugs" and "explodey thingies" at you, and his plan is the guides' plan: "strafe and go run back and forth", "waiting for a specific time to strike".
Hitting the glowing orb in its mouth during the summon stuns it, for about 10 seconds by Game Rant's count, and a fast stun stops most of the minions from spawning. Screen Rant notes that "all enemies and bosses take extra damage when they are in a vulnerable state", so the stun is when you spend your stamina and mana. No guide describes a second phase.
How to beat the Fell Wispwyvern solo
KaptainLee's 1.0 advice before the door: "make sure you bring a bow or a staff, something long-range", and bring an altar to set down outside "in case you die here", so you respawn close. A repair bench stands on the way in.
- Prepare. Game Rant's early access food was Popcorn for stamina recharge, Grilled Game for constitution and Hazelnut for strength, plus healing potions and an elixir (Game Rant); any foods for health and stamina will do.
- Keep moving. Strafe and roll; most of its attacks target the ground near you. Use the courtyard pillars as cover from the Shroud Swarm and from the minions.
- Get behind the breath. Step aside as it rises for the Shroud Breath and punish its flank.
- Break the summon. Watch for the glowing mouth, then hit the orb with an arrow, a spell or a melee strike.
- Spend the stun. Unload your heaviest attacks during the 10 seconds.
- Hit its side, not its face (below).
The stun still works in 1.0. KaptainLee tries his staff first ("maybe you can only do it with bow"), then lands the hit: "it'll stun him and you just go in and start whacking him", and he saves his two-handed sword's special ability for the next stun.
His fight also shows two traps. At level 13 he found that "the wand and the staff doesn't do barely any damage to him" and switched to his sword, which hit for about 600 at a time, and he kept being knocked back from the front until he worked out "I need to stop going towards his head" and moved to its side. Use ranged weapons to stun it, melee to kill it.
How to beat it in co-op
In a group, split the jobs: one player holds its attention and the Shroud Breath while a ranged player watches its mouth for the summon, and the rest clear the minions that slip through. Enemy health scales with the size of the party in multiplayer, as Keen's 1.0 fix for the Fell Fungal Friends shows, and an "Automatic" server setting scales the number of enemies in each encounter to the party nearby (Keen, Oct 14, 2026). Group play raises the chance of bonus boss loot (Keen, Feb 9, 2024). See Multiplayer and Co-op.
Recommended level, gear and builds
The quest journal recommends level 16 (AllThingsHow), and Destructoid's 1.0 level guide puts Revelwood at levels 11 to 15 and the Nomad Highlands at 15 to 20 (Destructoid, Oct 17, 2026), so it is a fight for the end of your Revelwood stretch. A Ranger Build or Mage Build hits the mouth orb most reliably; a Warrior Build or Tank Build needs good stamina for dodging, and boots or food that speed stamina recovery help. General tactics are on Combat.
Rewards
KaptainLee's 1.0 kill dropped "a sweet ring", "a key to the pike" and its head, so the Key to the Pike still drops in 1.0. AllThingsHow lists the 1.0 drops as the Fell Wispwyvern Head, 3 Shroud Cores, 12 to 16 Legendary Runes and the Commander's Ring, an epic ring "found inside the maw of the creature that haunts The Pike", with health, mana and stamina and Health Leech perks. The quest gives a second head and 200 XP, so a first win leaves you two (AllThingsHow, Oct 24, 2026). The head raises the Flame from level 3 to 4 (AllThingsHow, Oct 16, 2026; Flame Altar and Flame Levels); the hunter's four Wispwyvern trophies take 10 heads in all and are worth 2,000 XP as a set. The key opens more of the castle, where the Guard of the North armor waits (Screen Rant; Armor Sets).
What 1.0 changed
Keen has not reworked the wyvern itself, as it did the Fell Dragon Youngling. Its patches were fixes: some attacks once reached players outside the arena (Keen, Jun 13, 2024), and a deadly Shroud segment poked into the castle behind it (Keen, Nov 25, 2025). What changed at 1.0 (Oct 15, 2026) is the game around it: the Flame recipes and a combat rework with stamina recovery while blocking and heavy attacks that hit several close enemies (Keen, Oct 14, 2026).
The general rule that matters most, from Keen's 1.0 Update Highlights: "Enemies no longer regain all their health instantly when you die. So coming back for another attempt at the boss doesn't mean starting from scratch." With an altar outside the castle, a death against the wyvern now costs a short walk rather than the whole fight.
How many players have beaten it
Steam's "Dethroned" achievement had been earned by 37.5% of Steam owners of Enshrouded on Oct 28, 2026, against 73.2% for the Fell Thunderbrute and 8.6% for the Fell Dragon Youngling on Oct 26 (Steam Community). The share counts every owner since early access began on Jan 24, 2024, including those who never came back, so it understates how many active players get here; still, about half of those who beat the first boss also beat the wyvern.
