Is Enshrouded Worth It

Enshrouded 1.0 is worth it if you want a long survival RPG with deep building: it costs $39.99, scores 88 on Metacritic for PC (Oct 20, 2026), is Very Positive on Steam, and How Long To Beat lists about 45.5 hours for the main story and 76 for everything. Its known faults are grind, a thin story, no cross-play and post-launch patches still arriving.

Enshrouded 1.0 is worth buying if you want a long survival RPG with free-form building, alone or with friends: at $39.99 it holds 88 on Metacritic for PC (Oct 20, 2026), 81% of its recent English reviews on Steam are positive (read Oct 31, 2026), and the main story runs about 45.5 hours. It is less of a fit if you want a strong plot, cross-play with PS5 or a game with no grind. Keen Games' 1.0 Update Highlights show a typical session: sorting chests, feeding a rescued survivor, fishing and fighting in the Shroud. The fuller review record is on Reception and Players.

How long is Enshrouded?

Estimates differ because players stop at different points and the game is open. How Long To Beat, as Deku Deals shows it, lists 45.5 hours for the main story, 69.5 with extras and 76 for everything; those averages may include early access runs from before 1.0 finished the map. Prima Games gives 35 to 45 hours for the story (Prima Games), and CGMagazine's review "roughly 100 hours" for a full playthrough (CGMagazine, Oct 15, 2026). Keen has published no figure. Building has no end, and the Endgame page lists what remains after the credits.

What critics praise

GamingBolt gave 1.0 9/10, saying it "has benefited immensely from two years in Early Access". CGMagazine gave it 8.5/10 and called it "flawed but excellent". The parts most often praised are what Keen sells on its Steam page: voxel building that lets you dig and build anywhere, a handcrafted world explored with a glider and grappling hook, and action combat reworked in 2026 (Building Guide, Combat, What's New in 1.0).

What to weigh against it

  • Grind. Prima Games calls the game content-heavy but very grindy, with a loop that can grow repetitive (Prima Games). World settings can soften it (World Settings and Difficulty).
  • Thin story. GamingBolt and CGMagazine both list it among the weaker points, and Keen's creative director said in 2023 that it is "less of a story-driven game" (Game Rant; Story and Lore).
  • No cross-play. PC and PS5 players cannot play together, and Keen has "no current estimate" (Keen, Oct 13, 2026). Xbox is due in spring 2027 (Roadmap).
  • Patches still landing. Three hotfixes came in the first week, and recent Steam reviews (81%) run below the all-time English figure (87%) as of Oct 31, 2026 (Patch Notes Since 1.0, Server Troubleshooting).

Solo or co-op?

Both work. Enshrouded can be played entirely alone and offline, with difficulty presets and custom world settings, and in single-player it can be paused. Laptop Mag's early access comparison found it "isn't nearly as brutal" as Valheim and judged it the better pick for players who mostly play solo (Laptop Mag, Feb 17, 2024). In a group, a Flame upgrade helps everyone on the server, and Keen says the Hollow Halls are best visited with friends. On PS5 online co-op needs PS Plus (PS5 Version). Hosting is on Dedicated Servers; which build suits you is on Classes.

Frequently asked questions

Is Enshrouded worth buying in 2026? Yes, for players who want a long survival RPG with deep building: Enshrouded 1.0 costs $39.99, scored 88 on Metacritic for PC on Oct 20, 2026, and is Very Positive on Steam; skip it if you want a strong plot or PC and PS5 cross-play.

How long does it take to beat Enshrouded? How Long To Beat, via Deku Deals, lists about 45.5 hours for Enshrouded's main story, 69.5 with extras and 76 for everything, read Oct 31, 2026; Prima Games says 35 to 45 hours for the story.

Is Enshrouded worth playing solo? Yes. Enshrouded can be played entirely alone and offline, with presets and custom world settings to adjust the difficulty, though Keen Games recommends friends for the Hollow Halls.

Is Enshrouded finished? Yes. Enshrouded left early access with 1.0 on Oct 15, 2026, completing the map and concluding the current story; Keen Games promises more free and paid content.

Is Enshrouded grindy? Often, yes: Prima Games calls it very grindy. Enshrouded 1.0 cut many early recipe costs, and world settings such as factory speed can ease it.

Is Enshrouded better than Valheim? That is a matter of taste: Laptop Mag's 2024 comparison judged Valheim better for co-op and Enshrouded better for mostly solo players, and our Valheim viki covers the other game.

Will Enshrouded go on sale? Its 10% launch discount ended on Oct 29, 2026, and Keen Games has announced no later sale as of Oct 31, 2026.
