Night Temples
Night Temples, called Night Sanctums on Enshrouded's map, are trap-filled temples added in Thralls of Twilight (May 13, 2025) whose doors open only at night. Keen put them in every region and promised exclusive rewards; inside are puzzles, traps, chests and some of the game's Gem Forges.
Night Temples are sealed temples in Enshrouded that can be entered only at night, full of traps and holding rewards found nowhere else; Keen Games added them with Update 6, Thralls of Twilight, on May 13, 2025. Keen's highlights video for that update announced them with its new night: "Nighttime's no longer nap-time", with enemy patrols in the dark, wolves to capture, and "16 mysterious temples that only open during night! Each one a deadly challenge with powerful rewards." Keen's patch notes call them "a brand new type of point of interest found in every region of Embervale" that "can only be entered at night: their doors remain sealed during the day", with all-new architecture, dangerous traps and "exclusive rewards for those who dare to brave their depths" (Keen, May 13, 2025). On the map and in later patch notes they are Night Sanctums (1.0 changelog).

What a Night Temple is
A Night Temple is a dungeon with a door that answers to the time of day. By day the door stays shut, and AllThingsHow's 1.0 guide notes it "doesn't seem susceptible to force": attacks will not open it, and you look for the star-and-moon decoration on the facade (AllThingsHow, Oct 17, 2026). Come back after dark and the way in opens. Keen designed them as part of a push to make night worth staying up for: "The night is no longer just a time to survive, it's a time to thrive" (Keen, May 13, 2025). Keen's press release teased "a mysterious door or two" that players "could find them all to see what they hide in the dark" (Keen press release, May 13, 2025).
Nivarias' tour of the new temples, three days after Update 6 (May 16, 2025, a video Keen Games sponsored), shows the rule at the door: far down in the Shroud, the creator finds a Night Sanctum, "and as we can see, we cannot open it at the moment. It needs to glow, and it only glows during nighttime."
Nivarias waits out the day by clearing the Fox Chase ruin nearby, after which "the shroud area disappears", a pocket where the timer stops, until "it is night. And now the door is glowing". Inside there is a checkpoint at the start, and the Shroud timer keeps running ("The shroud timer also ticks in here. So, kind of like have a bit of a time pressure"), so a temple in the fog is a race. The rooms are platforming and switches over spikes: "it's like really jump and run temples."
Inside there are no bosses that Keen has named; the danger is traps and the night itself. Item Level's Thralls of Twilight guide calls the sanctums "puzzle dungeons with loot, lore, and rare chests", and says "each entry costs 1 Spark", the currency of Flame Shrines, so its advice is to use the Gem Forges inside them only when you must (Item Level, May 18, 2025). Nivarias' footage below shows both kinds of door, one opened by night alone and one that also took a Spark, and AllThingsHow's 1.0 guide does not mention a Spark cost, so check at the door.
Where the Night Temples are
Keen said in 2025 that Night Temples are in every region and its video counted 16; it has not published a list. AllThingsHow's 1.0 guide counts 30 Night Sanctums in seven regions and none in Cinder's Cradle, several of them "well below" a landmark, underground (AllThingsHow, Oct 17, 2026). Its landmarks, which Keen has not confirmed:
| Springlands (5) | West of Necropolis; north-west of Temple Ruin; north of Egerton Salt Mines; south-west of the Hunter's Ancient Vault, well below; west of Fox Chase |
| Revelwood (4) | South-west of Library Foyer; east of Small Tollhouse; the Trapped Night Sanctum north-east of Lush Pasture; the Elders' Night Sanctum south-east of Sacrificial Vukah Pit |
| Nomad Highlands (5) | South of Elixir Production Site; west of Rattlebleak; south of Lupa's Lair, well below; north-west of a Vukah camp, well below; south of Vukah Cave Pillar |
| Blackmire (1) | West of Lost Ancient Temple |
| Albaneve Summits (5) | South of Grassy Pasture Goat Farm, well below; east of Spooky Tomb; west of Gateway Outpost "Bora", well below; north-east of Balefire Garrison "Silkfrost", well below; south-west of Forgotten Tomb |
| Kindlewastes (5) | East of Draconian Vulture Nest, well below; south-east of Ocean's Heart; north-east of Obelisk Excavation Camp; north-east of Low Tide; west of Deepcut |
| Veilwater Basin (5) | South-east of Battlegrounds; north-west of Balefire Tower "1000 Miles"; north-east of Cargo Lift; north of Veilwater Basin Outlook; north of Library |
The two counts are 17 months apart, and the Veilwater Basin (Nov 10, 2025) and 1.0 came between them; Keen has not said how many temples later updates added, so each number is given as its source states it. Climbing a region's Ancient Spire charts its points of interest on the map, but Item Level warned in 2025 that the sanctums are "not all marked", so look for the star-and-moon doors as you travel; see Map and Regions.
How to clear a Night Temple
Plan the trip around the clock. Reach the door before dusk, clear the area outside, and enter once night falls. Night brings its own risks above ground: Scavenger patrols roam the roads, groups of the Fell spread the Shroud for a while, and Pack Wolves hunt (Keen, May 13, 2025). 1.0 cut the damage of Scavenger night patrols to about 60% of what it was, which makes the walk to a temple less punishing. Some temples sit inside The Shroud, so watch the timer there too.
Some temples hold a Gem Forge. Partway through the first temple Nivarias finds "a new gem forge" and stops to extract, swap and recycle weapon gems, which costs Archaic Essence of the right level. At the end, after every button, waits "a silver chest at the end of it", which gave a longbow.
Not every door is the same. A second temple, found "by just walking around in the shroud", was bigger, and "this one requires a spark to open", Nivarias says: "Just glad that we had a spark with us." Carry a Spark from a Flame Shrine when you go temple hunting (the shrines are covered on Ancient Spires).
Bring a bow or wand for switches out of reach, a grappling hook and glider for gaps, and healing for traps, which Keen named as the temples' main danger. Pots and chests inside hold the loot; 1.0 fixed a treasure chest in a level 30 night sanctum that had been dropping level 1 loot (1.0 changelog).
Rewards
Keen promised "exclusive rewards" and has not listed them. Creators and guides report chests, Gem Forges and building blocks. Item Level says the Starlight Block, "arguably the best" of the update's new blocks, waits in an unmarked Night Sanctum north-east of Balefire Garrison Skillfrost in the Albaneve Summits, behind a door opened at night, with a silver chest inside (Item Level, May 18, 2025). Thralls of Twilight also added night-blooming plants in every region, used for rare crafting materials, special food and stronger potions (Keen); since 1.0 all night plants can be grown as potted plants (1.0 changelog). Gems themselves are on Weapons and Legendary Weapons.
Two Night Sanctums carry quests in 1.0, both in Revelwood, according to AllThingsHow. Illuminate The Night, given by the Flame, leads to the Elders' Night Sanctum and the Barber, Elio Ricci, whom Keen added in Thralls of Twilight as a survivor "found and unlocked via a dedicated quest" who opens the full character customization menu (Keen, May 13, 2025). Contraptions And Mechanisms, given by the Carpenter, sends you into the Trapped Night Sanctum for the logic tool used with 1.0's Sparkworks (AllThingsHow; Adventure Sharing and Sparkworks; Survivors).
