Main Quest Walkthrough
Enshrouded's 1.0 main quest runs from the Cinder Vessel and your first Flame Altar through the survivors and Elixir Wells of the Springlands, Revelwood, Nomad Highlands, Kindlewastes, Albaneve Summits and Veilwater Basin, to Cinder's Cradle, six Beacon Dungeons in long-sealed Ancient structures, and the final quest "Cinders Of The End". This walkthrough gives the quests in order with recommended levels.
The main quest of Enshrouded 1.0 takes you from the Cinder Vessel where your Flameborn wakes, through a first Flame Altar and the rescue of the survivors, region by region across Embervale, to Cinder's Cradle, where the Ancient Researcher sends you through six Beacon Dungeons and up to the final quest, "Cinders Of The End". Keen Games' 1.0 launch trailer (Oct 14, 2026) shows the first step: a figure lies in a glowing orange pod in a dark Ancient chamber and walks out into the night. Quest names below are from AllThingsHow's 1.0 quest list (AllThingsHow, Oct 23, 2026) and levels from Destructoid (Oct 17, 2026); the story is on Story and Lore, and the final boss is named only in the spoiler section.

How the main quest works
The journal splits "main quests for important progression steps or story elements and side quests for more optional exploration and loot", and 1.0 marks a quest difficult when its area is 2 or more levels above you (Keen, Oct 14, 2026). Most main quests come from the Flame at your altar, the rest from survivors. What really holds you back is red Shroud, which means your Flame level is too low: when the marker points into it, upgrade the Flame first (The Shroud, Flame Altar and Flame Levels, Progression Guide).
Step 1: The Cinder Vessel, Longkeep and your first Flame Altar (Springlands, levels 1 to 10)
You climb out of the Cinder Vessel in the Cinder Vault and walk the road past Longkeep. Keen reworked this stretch for 1.0: its Update Highlights video tells anyone on a "first visit to Embervale" that "we've taken another pass at the opening hours", with more chests, roads and camps "adjusted to help you find your way" and cheaper early recipes.
The first main quest is "Claim A Spot For Your Base": reach the plains, build a Flame Altar and speak to the Flame (AllThingsHow). SurvivalBob's 1.0 walkthrough (Oct 16, 2026), started on a new character on release day, opens with the Flame's call: "You've slumbered for too long, Flameborn. The realm of Embervale has fallen, consumed by the shroud", and "Find a place in the ruined world and construct a flame altar to create shelter from the dark", before he heads into the short tutorial area. Keen moved the first level-up here: before 1.0, "walking into Longkeep often triggered a first level-up, which felt unsatisfying", and now it comes with the first Flame Altar (Keen). The Beginner's Guide covers these first hours in more detail, and the Building Guide what to build around the altar.
Step 2: The survivors
The Flame's next quests are the first rescues and the basics of a home, in this order in AllThingsHow's list:
- "Find the Sleeping Survivor": travel through the Shroud to an Ancient Vault, wake the Blacksmith, Oswald Anders, and summon him to your base. This is your second level-up in 1.0 (Keen).
- "Building Shelter", "Making A Home", "Spend A Skill Point" and "Use Fast Travel": a workbench and fireplace, a bed and cooked food, the Skill Tree and fast travel.
- "Hunter Becomes The Hunted": find and summon the Huntress, Athalan Skree.
- "Powerful Alchemy": find and summon the Alchemist, Balthazar.
- "Flame Altar And Base Improvements": collect Sparks, strengthen the Flame, expand your home and build a second altar.
The Blacksmith's vault explains your own beginning. In SurvivalBob's run he clears the vault's guards, wakes "Oswald Anders. Come on down", and reads a note by the Alchemist, Balthazar, dated 508 DA: "The cinder vessel is a delicate contraption", and "Thankfully, the blacksmith volunteered. He must enter the vessel and sleep until roused anew".
"A Story Of Fire" and "A Story Of Rot" send you to the Springlands' two obelisks. Survivors' own quests bring the rest: the Huntress's "Growing Stronger Together" leads to the Farmer, and the Alchemist's "Explore The Hollow Halls" to the Collector (AllThingsHow; Hollow Halls). Every survivor is on Survivors.
Step 3: The first Elixir Well
Once the Blacksmith is in your base, he sends you to the first Elixir Well, past Braelyn Bridge and down through the Shroud to its guardian, the Fell Thunderbrute (Game Rant, Jan 25, 2024). Beating it earns "Thundering success", and the Shroud Root at the bottom gives skill points (Shroud Roots and Elixir Wells). Climb each region's Ancient Spire to chart it.
Step 4: Revelwood and the Blackmire (levels 11 to 15)
North of the Springlands lie the Revelwood (11 to 15) and, north of it, the Blackmire, "perfect for explorers around level 13 to 15 with gear to match", Keen's Update 2 video says. The Flame's quest here is "Follow The Melody": forge a path, master the Ancient Blackmire Spire, explore the Sunken Ancient City and summon the Bard, Valory (AllThingsHow).
Step 5: Nomad Highlands and Kindlewastes (levels 15 to 30)
The Nomad Highlands (15 to 20) and the desert Kindlewastes (20 to 30) come next. The Kindlewastes' Elixir Well is guarded by the Fell Monstrosity, and the hidden Haunted Sun Temple by the flying Fell Sicklescythe; the Fell Wispwyvern waits in the Imperial Gardens of Pikemead's Reach (Bosses). No Flame quest in AllThingsHow's list names these two regions: Flame upgrades and bosses carry you through.
Step 6: Albaneve Summits (levels 30 to 40)
The Albaneve Summits are "a massive new snow biome that towers above the world as the highest peak on the map", Keen's Update 4 video says, where the cold "deeply impacts gameplay". Four Flame quests run here (AllThingsHow):
- "Ignite The Snowy Mountaintops": reach the Mountaincave Passage, then reach and master the Ancient Spire.
- "Slaying The Corrupted Beast": light all the Balefires, then challenge the beast on Howling Peak, the Fell Dragon Youngling. Its head is the reward.
- "Increasing Your Follower Amount And Flame Level": gather happy villagers and upgrade the Flame.
- "Ignite The Coldest Elixir Well": defeat the "Evil Eye" in the Elixir Well and upgrade the Flame; the reward is a Fell Cyclops head.
Another Flame quest, "Illuminate The Night", has you investigate a barrier, explore a sanctum and summon the Barber, Elio Ricci (AllThingsHow). AllThingsHow does not place it in a region.
Step 7: Veilwater Basin and the Crown of Sorrow (levels 35 to 45)
The Veilwater Basin is "a new high-level area as beautiful as it is dangerous", Keen's Update 7 video says, home to the Drak, who "can actually fight underwater". Its Flame quests, in AllThingsHow's order, are "Emerald Shores And Sanguine Seas" (traverse the passage, find a guiding soul, search Captain's Rest, summon the Captain), "A Lighthouse In Sunless Seas" (master the Veilwater Basin's Ancient Spire) and "Veilwater Basin Flame Upgrade" (AllThingsHow); that upgrade needs the head of Hydrak'Dal, the Drak leader.
"Crown Of Sorrow" opens the endgame. Reach the throne room of Cromville, the walled castle in the north of the basin, take the Broken Guard of the North Crown and upgrade the Flame to level 10 (AllThingsHow). Apex's video of Oct 14, 2026 shows him pick up the "Broken guard of the north crown" and reach "Flame level 10. One more level to go". The full recipe (16 survivors among it) and the route into the castle are on Cinder's Cradle.
Step 8: Cinder's Cradle and the Ancient Researcher (levels 45 to 50)
The quest "Land Of The Sky Islands" takes you through the Ancient Gate, between Cromville Hot Spring and Lake Luma, into Cinder's Cradle. Its steps are "Reach The Ancient Gate", "Reach The Heart Of Cinders", "Look Around Cinder's Ascent" and "Summon The Ancient Researcher And Speak To Them" (AllThingsHow, Oct 22, 2026). In Apex's video the screen reads "you've reached the gate and now we're able to proceed into the land of the ancients", and the first enemies past it fire lasers.
The Ancient Researcher, the new survivor "specializing in Ancient knowledge and recipes" (Keen), explains the next step. In Apex's video she says there is "one switch for every biosphere marked by a beacon. Together, they'll unlock the gate to the stars." AllThingsHow names her Loraine Crim. Her other quests, "Crafting An Infusion Altar" and "A Gem Forge Of Our Own", open the region's crafting (AllThingsHow; Crafting Stations).
Step 9: The Beacon Dungeons, the sealed structures of 1.0
"Activating The Gate To The Stars" is the 1.0 answer to years of locked doors. Keen promised that "players will visit structures in the previous biomes, some of which had players wonder and desperately look for a hidden entrance for years" (Keen, Oct 14, 2026). The quest's steps are "Reach And Use The First Dungeon Entrance", "Complete The Springlands Beacon Dungeon", "Complete All Beacon Dungeons" and "Talk To The Ancient Researcher", with six entrances named for the Springlands, Revelwood, Nomad Highlands, Kindlewastes, Albaneve Summits and Veilwater Basin (AllThingsHow). Apex climbs to the first and gets the objective "Complete the Springlands Beacon dungeon".
The entrances stand in Cinder's Cradle, but each dungeon matches its own region's level (the Nomad Highlands one is level 18), and the Springlands one must come first (AllThingsHow, Oct 17, 2026). Apex's Springlands dungeon turns out to be "the Embervale Museum", where he kills the right constructs to solve a lock puzzle, beats a boss and resets an alarm. Each holds one piece of a miniature of Embervale behind an archaic lock (AllThingsHow).
The other five can be done in any order. After the first, Apex's screen says "You've activated one of six necessary beacons. Many more must follow. Complete all the remaining beacon dungeons. Feel free to complete them in any order", and they appear on the map; Apex says the six took him "nearly 8 hours".
Step 10: The last quest
With all six beacons lit, the researcher gives "Cinders Of The End", and the teleport platform at Cinder's Ascent carries you to the floating islands (AllThingsHow, Oct 19, 2026). The islands are linked by air currents and guarded by Ancient constructs; place an altar or portal near the Ancient Citadel before the last fight (Lord Vorgoth has the route).
Spoiler: the final fight
This section names the final boss.
"Cinders Of The End" ends at the rooftop of Mother Flame's Domicile with the objectives "Defeat Vorgoth" and "Rescue The Mother Flame" (AllThingsHow). Lord Vorgoth fights in two forms, Champion of the Shroud and The Wanderer's Vessel (Steam's hidden achievement "A new North Star": "Defeat Lord Vorgoth."); after the kill, use the Flame altar in the arena. Beating him unlocks Flame level 11, and outro slides close the story (Ending Explained).

Cinder's CradleCinder's Cradle is the endgame region added in Enshrouded 1.0 on Oct 15, 2026, north of Veilwater Basin, for characters of about level 45 to 50: lava wastes below and floating Ancient islands above, with 12 Shroud Roots, a new 14-type enemy faction, a new crafting tier and survivor, and the story's final fight high in the sky. -
Story and LoreIn Enshrouded you are a Flameborn, a human form joined with the powers of the Ancients, woken in the Cinder Vault to save Embervale, a kingdom that fell when its rulers mined the Elixir and their Elixir Wells released the Shroud. Version 1.0 (Oct 15, 2026) gave the story "an ending, though certainly not an end". -
Fell ThunderbruteThe Fell Thunderbrute is the first boss of Enshrouded, the guardian of the first Elixir Well in the Springlands, reached through the Shroud near Braelyn Bridge on a quest from the Blacksmith. Beating it earns the achievement "Thundering success", its head and the Shroud Root at the bottom of the well.
-
SpringlandsThe Springlands are Enshrouded's starting region (levels 1 to 10 at 1.0), in the southwest of Embervale, with the Cinder Vault, Longkeep, Braelyn Bridge, the first Elixir Well and its Fell Thunderbrute, the first Hollow Halls, and the Low Meadows to the south.
-
RevelwoodRevelwood (Keen also writes "the Revelwoods") is Enshrouded's dark forest region north of the Springlands, for levels 11 to 15 at 1.0, with copper, the town of Willow Crush, the Revelwood Hollow Halls and its Hollow Cyclops, and the passage to the Blackmire.
